I use skype regularly, and have no issues with it...
The disclaimer can be looked at as "this is P2P software - therefore people other than Skype employees etc will be able to connect tou your system"
I would baulk at calling it spyware - but it is P2P technology, and like all P2P systems (including kazaa, etc) it allows outside connections to be initiated.
If you set up the options to only allow calls from people you have authorised, then it will be fine..
I get more hassle on my AIM account (annoying messages from people I have never heard of) than I do on Skype.
