Msn microphone not working weird windows xp

I running windows xp and i am trying to have a voice convo over msn messenger (latest release) and it doesnt work, i can hear the person i want to speak to but they cannot hear me. My mike is making all the right 'noises' and the settings appear fine in the volume control.

I have also tried the audio tuning wizard in msn, and it shows my microphone to be working...but still no luck

does anyone know what i can do...
cheers

Re: Msn microphone not working weird windows xp

probably best summed up with - "use some other sowftware !" - till MS sort it out

MSN Messenger has been having all sort of problems since about ver 6 - with one end not being able to hear (or see the other end)

Refer HERE for more detailed help/suggestions (EDIT: changed link)

I now use EyeBallChat (since I use a camera too, think it works without too) but the sound quality is much better that MSN, and now theres SKYPE too to consider

In Control Panel/Sounds and Audio Devices/Audio tab, have you got your microphone selected under "Sound Recording"? Also, under the "Voice" tab, have you got the mic selected under "Voice recording"?

I use skype regularly, and have no issues with it...

The disclaimer can be looked at as "this is P2P software - therefore people other than Skype employees etc will be able to connect tou your system"

I would baulk at calling it spyware - but it is P2P technology, and like all P2P systems (including kazaa, etc) it allows outside connections to be initiated.

If you set up the options to only allow calls from people you have authorised, then it will be fine..
I get more hassle on my AIM account (annoying messages from people I have never heard of) than I do on Skype.
