Saving Favourites From IE?
I've been having problems with Internet Explorer for several weeks now, and am thinking of doing an uninstall/reinstall. I was wondering if it is possible to save the Favourites list, and then slot it back in after the proposed operation. Any help given will be greatfully received.
Thanks in advance.
EoB.

Re: Saving Favourites From IE?
Think you can export them in the file menu under Import/ Export
(now for the full post LOL)
In the file menu you select "Import and Export" and then follow the prompts to export (and thus afterwards Import) favourites and cookies so you don't lose much information at all

Re: Saving Favourites From IE?
Hiya
afaik you can't uninstall Internet Explorer, it just reverts to a previous version. You should be ok to go ahead with re-installing the latest version now.

Re: Saving Favourites From IE?
Homer is right though You should be able to download and install the newest version over the top. If it plays up though you may need to follow those instructions (method 2) to clear out any problem files

Its either 5 or 5.5, cant mind off hand. I checked in windows components, and while it is listed it has a file size of 0.0MB. Yet the IE prog is still in the program files, with a size of approx 1.82MB. I really do think the target practice option is the best though.

Yep its the same here as MS don't like it being uninstalled LOL think that just removes access to it

Re: Saving Favourites From IE?
Same problem's as before continue. I think I'll just copy what I want to keep (MS Office etc), and reformat. I just dont need this today.

Re: Saving Favourites From IE?
I just copy the contents of the Favorites folder and then put them back after. All that happens is you lose the sort order, which can easily be fixed. Not sure about XP, but in Windows 98 there's a utility called MSINFO32.EXE that has a repair option for IE - you could try that instead of reinstall. It's not actually possible to remove IE - it just reverts back to a previous version, providing you still have one.

I posted about a problem clearing the Temporary Internet File, it keeps becomming unresponsive and needing shut down.
I'm also try to book tickets for a return flight from Toronto to St. John's. Most of the airline booking sites refuse to work, total nightmare. I think I'll burn of everything I was and just reformat the HDD over the weekend. I'm just not up for fighting with this puter to do what I need, so format of die.

My Favourites are extremely portable
In 1999 I started developing my own Desktop Search Engine.
The only problem I had when changing computers was my favourites.
I made a small change to the program to allow me to archive them
just like I do Video, Music, Pics and text.
When archiving pictures it takes 2 lines of text. The first line had the
search information and the 2nd line had the path to the picture. So
instead of loading the picture. If I found HTTP on the 2nd line I put
the URL as the default in an input box. I copy and paste this into the
browser.
I can move my favourites to any computer anytime without disturbing
the existing ones. Currently I have my "internet news", "TrapLine"
and "other forum" postings archived. Random or Sequential access.
