Which web browser should I opt for?

I am sick of IE annoying me with it's c**p. Plus, there have been all these scares recently about this IE bug.

I need to change browser. Question is, to which one?

Can I have your suggestions please.

Re: Which web browser should I opt for?

Mozilla, Firefox or netscape there is also Opera.

I use Mozilla and it out performs IE, I have friends that say Firefox is the best one but as I have never used firefox I cannot say. They are both part of netscape so I suppose its more about what you want. Try a few and select teh one you like the best that suits your needs.

You will find some sites will only work in IE though.

Re: Which web browser should I opt for?

Ok, thanks.

The poll runs for two days. At the end, the option which got the highest votes will be the browser which I choose. It may also help other people choose their browser.

Thanks to everyone who posts.

Re: Which web browser should I opt for?

Been using Opera for a year or two now, not had a problem + you can us it for email as well (although it takes some getting used to)

I agree with Kits though there are some shoddy programmed sites out there that only work properly on IE. I'd suggest keeping it in a locked box and getting it out if you need it.

Scarlett.

Re: Which web browser should I opt for?

Gone for Netscape. I use it occasionally at work for testing and it seems fine.

Re: Which web browser should I opt for?

I've never had a problem with IE and it has the advantage of being the most widely supported browser.

Re: Which web browser should I opt for?

I'd stick with IE

I've found Firefox to be very slow to start up and extremely 'rough' when loading pages - processor usage always sticks at 100% and causes any music playing to skip etc.

What do you mean by its crap?

There's no need to be concerned about this IE bug - just patch your system and keep your antivirus up to date (they detected the presence of this bug even before MS released a patch).

Re: Which web browser should I opt for?

If you was to open the task manager, and tell IE to load a page, you can see IE using your spaire CPU usage, I think all browers use a lot of CPU usage up.

BTW, what processor have you got? I'm running a notebook and my music doesn't skip when using firefox.

Firefox Fast and Lean.
My only gripe is no forum spell checker.

If I were you, after the two days I would eliminate all but the most popular two browsers in the poll and then ask a Mod to change the poll to allow you to decide between those two. If you go on the results as they are as I'm posting, then you would stick with IE, as it has 4 votes while the next most popular, Mozilla, has 3. But overall, IE has attracted only 36% of the votes (only a little better than 1 in 3 voters support it). That's hardly a ringing endorsement and, frankly, I think it supports your instinct to ditch IE and try something better.

If you do that, I predict that at the end of the first poll you will carry IE and Mozilla into 'round 2' and at the end of that, Mozilla will win.

Re: Which web browser should I opt for?

Its funny the different experiances people have with firefox. I stopped using ie around a year ago now and started using opera. It was fine untill I installed firefox and i was completely blown away. Opera just seemed ....I dunno amateurish somehow compared to firefox. Ive never had any of the problems that people have had with it running slow etc...its always zipped along ata fair old speed. Ive even talked my partner into using it

I am sticking with ie as I've got it set up exactly as I want it but if I had to change I would go for firefox.

Re: Which web browser should I opt for?

It all depends on the sites that I know I will be visiting and the system that I am using as to which browser I use. I like tabbed browsing and tend to use Netscape the most.
