offering the ability to attach a variety of multimedia files to e-mail, a range of backgrounds, icons, and emoticons, and continuous account availability, even if a user has been inactive for months, it says.

WallaMail's big play against Gmail is its entertainment features, however, such as the users' ability to watch video clips in their in-boxes, and attach a digital image to a message to add personal style, Philosoph says.
"We think that features like stationery and smileys are fun and Gmail right now is very textual and very basic. I think in the broadband era people should have more fun with their e-mail,"

what ?
his point was why just have a plain message when you can add to it.
if you can add some personalisation to it, such as a picture signiture or a video clip incorporated in to the message why not ?

Re: Gmail rival offers service 'now'
Sure, give me spam with video - why not?
If people really need to send me a video, they can give me a link to their FTP server, smtp was never designed for file transfer.

Re: Gmail rival offers service 'now'
Israel have some pretty crappy laws regarding IT as well, there dont have anything to stop them looking at your mail

Re: Gmail rival offers service 'now'
I'm afraid i'd rather die than sign up for that one...wallamail that is..... but hotmail looks like it's upping the stakes with it's COMING SOON notification email of "the introduction of a 250 MB inbox as well as the ability to send attachments up to 10 MB." for free
I'm not sure i care about any of them since i'm relatively happy with the email accounts i have but obviously the competition can only add more to consumer choice..... so even though i can't use my gmail account, the very public introduction of gmail has been useful nonetheless

Re: Gmail rival offers service 'now'
i dont think people will stop wanting gmail just because this new service has started. after all, gmail is somewhat a status symbol across the interweb now isnt it, people would prefer to be "@gmail.com" rather than "@walla.com" dont you think?

I prefer neither, and I certainly don't consider gmail as a status symbol.
