Would I-Web suit me?
At present NTL are hosting my website http://homepage.ntlworld.com/cytherean1/
IT's nothing special and I'm not into templates and all the rest of it.I need very little in the way of specialties. In fact I would be happy staying with NTL but for one thing,I think I'm in danger of outgrowing it mainly because mine is a image biased site.I have another free site which gives much more space but I'm unhappy with it because it has so much advertising and uploading to it is a right pain.I also hate the way ntl doesn't seem to be able to indicate how much of my 55MB I've used so far. However I'm happy just using ftp to upload as I can at least manage drag and drop.
Now,I know nothing about any kind of coding as I just use Namo WebEditor and stick to HTML.I'm not into anything complex but I do want more space.Would I-Web suit me?Would I find it too complicated(bearing in mind I've not sorted out how to change anything about my blog so far).
Incog.

Re: Would I-Web suit me?
how do you store your stuff before you upload it? Cant you tell from these files how much youve used? One alternative might be to link the two sites together and only use the one thats dificult to upload to for pages that you dont change often.

Re: Would I-Web suit me?
Well going by what I've got stored on my PC,I'm either already over the limit or I'm about to go over the limit.
I would really rather ditch the free site as I just get lots of spam and ads from it plus it's b*tch to upload to.I just want simple. Please remember I'm not really technically savvy about all this.

Re: Would I-Web suit me?
Well to upload to Iweb will be a similar process to ntl with WSFTP or similar, whatever you use now, or if Namo does it then you would just need to update the settings from the email they provide you with your ftp details.
To transfer your site you would drag and drop the entire site back to a new folder on your PC and then onto Iweb.
You could then put a forwarding htm page on ntlworld to forward to your new site. You'll need to aquire a domin name too.

Hi Incog
I think you can just port your site 'as is' to I-web, by uploading the files & folders to the appropriate I-web folder in your space (which they do inform you of, when you sign up).
If you can ftp to ntl webspace, you shouldn't have any problems with I-web
I was going to mention the image gallery sites they will help you set up, but yours is so good that it would be insulting, the Monet Wild Poppies are still my favourite

I'm upgrading the Monet pages at the moment.I'm going to make it much better without the tables.
Thanks for the replies so far.Are there any other I-Web users out there that can give me an opinion?

Re: Would I-Web suit me?
Hi Incog,
I have one site with I-Web, and plan to move my other site when my current hosting expires.
All I can say is its FAB!!!
Taking a quick look at your code, I would say you could upload it as-is without any changes at all, and it should work.
You can use any FTP program to upload to I-Web just the same as you do with your NTL space, or if Namo WebEditor does it you should be able to configure that to upload to I-Web.
You just have to remember to put everything in the /public_html/ folder of your space on I-Web and all will be fine & dandy!
I do know entirely what you mean about free hosts. My 1st stab at a website was many many moons ago on Geocities, way before Yahoo got hold of them.
Then traveled thru many free hosts, moving on when I get fed up with the ads and how slow they can be (or they vanish completely!) eventually getting a paid host.
Moved paid hosts a couple of times and I-Web has to be the best I've had so far, and I'm not planning to move

Re: Would I-Web suit me?
I've got a few accounts I find it easy, and I'm no expert, but when you sign up, they send you a fairly comprehensive e-mail outlining how to use ftp to upload files. Once that's set up it's as simple as dragging and dropping from your PC to the remote folder.
Not to mention the other fun applications which are soooo easy to arrange from the control panel, like bulletin boards and stuff.

Oh no I hope not.I'm already tearing my hair out trying to turn thumbnails into round buttons in Jasc and Adobe.I don't need to be playing with anything else.
Anyway can't see me needing a bulletin board for an art education/appreciation site site.

- how about - you could access your existing site, from the 'white board', - in any school you went to?

Re: Would I-Web suit me?
I use I web and its all fairly straightforward.
The things that I HAVE been stuck at I just open a support ticket and they answer pretty quickly.
Top Notch

Oh dear. You have been watching too much of that Teachers series.Contrary to all opinion that programme bears no resemblance to any real school I've ever taught at.I very rarely get near a PC,I have no personal login password and I have no time.In fact if it wasn't for work,I'd have no life.

Re: Would I-Web suit me?
Incog,
I can certainly recommend I-Web, not because I use them myself, but because KingP is very willing to help out at every stage.
From your point of view I don't see a problem in switching, because you'd get support from all of us I-Web users too (at least me, anyway ).
Plus, if you speak to KingP directly, I'm sure he can customise a package to your requirements. *nudges KP*

Re: Would I-Web suit me?
Incognitas requirements are only for http serving and storage space at the mo. Whats the need for a custom package?
http://i-websolutions.co.uk/nthwwhosting.html
Package 1 100Mb
Package 2 200Mb or
Package 3 300Mb
Depending upon the required storage / bandwidth needs. I would have thought the package 2 was a good start, but if she / you don't want to worry about filling it up / overbandwidth charges then package 3 is only an extra £11 p/a and would mean it would be a set up and forget transaction.
Knowing you have filled your NTL space 55Mb and some more somewhere else 100Mb? Then the 300Mb will give your site space to double without the need to do any more yourself.

Re: Would I-Web suit me?
I have the top package for my site, it works very well, the server is nice and fast (shared with NTHW) and the server software like PHP is kept up to date.
