strange download problem...

I have downloaded the installer for AVG free edition, but whenever i try to install it, it extracts the files and then runs the setup programme for something i previously downloaded called ragnarok online instead.

I have deleted all signs of the installer for this programme, including the file that i download, all temporary internet files, everything out of the "downloaded installers" folder, and i have searched for and deleted any files that might be related to the programme as well.

I have downloaded the installer program for avg a few times now, using IE6 and mozilla firefox, and saved it to different locations, but i am still getting the same problem. Using win2k.

Any ideas?!

Try checking your PC for spyware?

Re: strange download problem...

I've heard of problems with viruses still being on your PC and reactivated if they are just deleted to the recycle bin. Unless it's totally gone from your system, there can still be some buried link to it.

Well done Bill Gates. Bring back DOS at least then you knew what was where on your system, rather than the throw the software at the Harddisk apporach of todays bloatware.

The Winzip SFX bug!

The general cure is to open and extract with your favourite zip program, to a directory of YOUR choosing, and then run the setup from there.

If you leave the self extractor to work it's own way through the morass of temp files and folders, it makes a right pig's ear of it!
