CERN trumped by iPhone app

Scientists at the CERN facility near Geneva were reportedly ‘disappointed and upset’ following the launch of an iPhone app that does the work of the Large Hadron Collider.
The application, which costs 99 pence and is already available, uses the advanced accelerometer technology in the iPhone to recreate the conditions exactly as they were just as the big bang happened.
To operate the application, the user has to shake the phone lightly and the conditions for the creation of the universe are instantly recreated.
Users can write and share reviews of the Higg Bosun particle. The software has shot straight to the number 2 position on the iTunes app store chart, just behind the popular and ‘hilarious’ iFart app.
Speaking on behalf of CERN, director general Rolf Heuer commented, “the whole team here is feeling rather foolish that we didn’t see the potential in the iPhone to carry out this task. Considering the app costs 99 pence, and our machine costs 2.6 billion pounds, the app represents much better value for money.
The iPhone is also smaller than the thing we use.’ Mr Heur continued, ‘We are very embarrassed.’
