Quote:
The nominations for this year's Oscars are announced later, with George Clooney and Meryl Streep likely to lead the charge in the best actor and best actress categories.
Silent film The Artist and family drama The Descendants are expected among the frontrunners for best picture.
The 84th Academy Awards take place on Sunday 26 February at the Kodak Theatre, Hollywood.
This year's host is comic actor Billy Crystal.

Other films predicted to appear in the best film category are Hugo, Martin Scorsese's love letter to the early days of cinema, civil rights drama The Help and Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris.
Owing to a change in Oscar voting system, the best picture category could consist of between five and 10 nominees.

The Artist and Hugo both win five Academy Awards at the Oscars but l have to say that l thought The War Horse should have garnered more awards as to me it was the best film of all the nominations.
Quote:
The Artist and Hugo emerged as the big winners at the 84th Annual Academy Awards.
The films, which both celebrate the history of cinema, took home five Oscars apiece at the ceremony, which was hosted by Billy Crystal from the Hollywood & Highland Theatre.
The Artist dominated the major awards, winning 'Best Picture', 'Best Director' for Michel Hazanavicius and 'Best Actor' for star Jean Dujardin. The black and white film, the first to win the coveted 'Best Picture' since 1928's Wings, also won for 'Original Score' and 'Costume Design'.
Martin Scorsese's Hugo dominated the technical categories, picking up wins for 'Art Direction', 'Cinematography', 'Sound Editing', 'Sound Mixing' and 'Visual Effects'.
Meryl Streep won the third Academy Award of her career when she was named 'Best Actress' for her role as Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady.
The Help's Octavia Spencer won the 'Best Supporting Actress' trophy, while 82-year-old Christopher Plummer became the oldest Oscar-winner after collecting the 'Best Supporting Actor' prize for his role in Beginners.
Elsewhere, Rango netted the 'Best Animated Feature', and Flight of the Conchords star Bret McKenzie won 'Original Song' for his 'Man or Muppet' track from The Muppets.
