Whats going on The Top Ten ?
It might be me, BUT isn't there something funny going on with the Pop charts.
In the run up to Xmas we are told that the Military Wives have sold more records in seven days than any other group, and take number christmas one.
Yet one week later, when most of the shops are shut, MWives are now down to number four.
Is there something out there which is changing these placings or is it down to the record company trying to pull a fast one, which they have done before.

Figures are based on downloaded stuff too. These places never close.

Re: Whats going on The Top Ten ?
It's weekly sales, ie. the previous weeks figures don't count

That would just mean that most of the people who wanted it, went out and bought it in the week before Christmas. It's not unusual for a big hyped charity record to do this.

Re: Whats going on The Top Ten ?
I just wonder wether it is record companies that 'fix' these spots.

There are more singles downloaded than brought in shops now, i mean where do you buy singles from in shops now anyway?
People buy Christmas singles in the week before Christmas, the next week they start a fresh and not many people will buy a Christmas single after Christmas, hence why they quickly disappear or drop down.
It's not rocket science.

Supposedly they can't. I read years back that the systems that tally the record sales don't tally the sales from all the shops. They tally the sales from a random selection of shops, that changes each week.
It would be easier the fiddle the download sales, but I suspect if they did, the itunes chart wouldn't include any older songs, where as it frequently includes songs from 10 or 20 years ago, and even obscure album tracks that were never intended as singles.
I am not saying they don't at least try and fiddle the charts, or that it's impossible to fiddle the charts, just that it's apparently not easy.
