All very good, I'm a absolute 80's listener too - nothing like it. Well penned tunes, no factory made pop rubbish just solid music. All good though as this will put the cat in-between the pigeons when lunch the new stations goes ahead, we all know the now named "Absolute Radio" was virgin radio back in 1993 (anybody remember to back then? - I do >Dj Nick abbot), first digital (DAB) station to broadcast to the public since 1995 - they developed the tech too on the way.

Good all round mee thinks... lets just forget the lacking local FM/bbc stations as there just all plain as with the same ideas/ leads from head office. Not even think about the lack luster modern music stations rubbish either. Question yourself..where did all the good long-term music artists go from the main stream media?

I'll let you ponder that thought, while I slither my way into corner into the shadows again

To add Capital radio has never been the same since the late Kenny Everett left to pass on to a higher plane of living.
Now Most BBC radio/modern radio is utter tripe, play list of one track wonders, factory sounding produced...they sound all the same then the lame lackluster music promo clips..no talent, no idea what they should be just dressing little or as much wild to get any attention just to sell copies of trash then disappear back into there past life.

Really music has become too cheap, just a thing to raise money for the greedy music machine, yet they moan... of lack of profits or reinvestment money... any wonders

Re: Absolute Radio to launch 60s and 70s stations

Gave up on the UK based gold format stations as soon as I got a decent broadband connection. Dutch stations like Radio 10 Gold leave ours standing. 95% of the music output is in english, and only about 1/3 of the advertising you get on UK stations. They also offer dedicated 70s, 80s & 90s streams.

Its a crap station, they refuse to play Sir Cliff Richard songs, l listen to the only station in London and thats Magic 105.4

I also would love to listen to a Country and Western station, there used to be a Tv station that played videos, l don't know where that went.

Many have tried and failed. Remember 3C in Scotland (which was on Freeview for a while) and Country 1035 in London. The latter suffered from having the worst medium wave slot in London & despite being on DAB never generated enough listeners to be viable. The format is also shunned by advertisers over here, so I doubt we will see their like again.

I have to admit I was a fan of CMT Europe when it started on the early cable services. It was then dropped in favour of VH-1, and shortly afterward the yanks pulled the plug on the Europe service because even the continental fans couldn't keep it going..

When you consider that the little country that gets played on UK radio has usually been edited "de-twanged" and remixed to within an inch of it's life, I think your only choice is to get an internet radio or emigrate.

Re: Absolute Radio to launch 60s and 70s stations

There are some good country radio stations on the net. I also listen to westsound radio on a Sunday from 6 pm till 8 and then a mixture of 5os & 60s rock till 9 Pm. I also love WSM radion from Nashville on a Sunday afternoon Bluegrass and Gospel Country.

Dee Brown has a Irish country radio station on a Monday afternoon and she plays a good mixture of country from Ireland and the USA
