Rebecca Black - Latest YouTube star
This is the latest person to get some sort of a record deal because she made it big on YouTube. The song gets around 2 million views per day on YouTube and has got over 2 million downloads from iTunes alone, and that was last week.
Its got close to 100 million views so far, what kind of rubbish are they making these days, check it out...
Although the video is the first video on YouTube to get more dislikes then Justin Beiber's "Baby" with over 1.7 million dislikes.

I just can't understand what has happened to the music industry over the years...

Re: Rebecca Black - Latest YouTube star
I saw that the other week - under the title ' the worst ever song' or similar. You're right - it's a mad world
Apparently her mum paid for a studio session (one of those experience days) and the song was just some dross they had in the studio.

And they say Piracy is killing off the music industry........
Seems to me, after listening to 30 seconds of that caterwauling, that the music industry needs absolutely no help at all to commit Hari Kari

Agreed. Not my choice of listening but my kids love it and it's easier to listen to than most of the trash in the charts!
People going on about 'today's music' and the 'music industry'. Come on - this isn't a serious artist. Just a young kid being indulged and having a good time - she's 13 for goodness sake. Lighten up. At least it's not Tinie Tempah.

If the stats on the page are anything to go by, about 1 in 400 of those viewers liked it.

Re: Rebecca Black - Latest YouTube star
Its not about being 13 or not, even though she doesn't look 13. Its the fact that her record label should have come up with something a little better for her like some better lyrics.
"Yesterday was thursday, today it is friday.. we we we so excited we so excited we gonna have a ball today. Tomorrow is saturday and sunday comes afterwards"
they have made her a laughing stock with those lyrics

Re: Rebecca Black - Latest YouTube star
Here's a point though. If the lyrics weren't so bad, and the song so bad, there wouldn't be millions of Youtube hits. There wouldn't be TV appearances. There wouldn't be a record contract.
I think she has a lot to be thankful for bad lyrics.
Good luck to her.

Agreed 100%...
It just keeps getting worse... kids shouldn't be allowed to listen to music or have an opinion about it imo.

Wha..?
She didn't have a 'label'. Or a contract. No one's wrote anything for her.
They're just an experience company with a bunch of generic bubble-gum pop tunes. Anyone can release any old tat and get it published on iTunes. A flash in the pan and a bit of fun.
This is about as serious a release as Spitting Image's Chicken Song and Star Trekkin'.
Really, see it for what it is and stop over reacting!

Re: Rebecca Black - Latest YouTube star
The record industry has always done this. They get nice, vaguely pretty looking young people. They market the hell out of them for a couple of years, then once they have had some success, the company starts looking for the next young person and drops this one as soon as a record they release doesn't hit no.1.
It's happened before (S Club 7, Atomic Kitten, Samantha Mumba, going back to the 70s with the Osmonds and Jacksons).
I dare say it'll happen again. Justin Beiber for instance.
