Fantasy books for grown-ups?
Can anyone recommend any fantasy books that aren't written for the 'young adult' market? Apart from LOTR and the Gunslinger series.

Re: Fantasy books for grown-ups?
You could try The Wheel of Time. I'm not sure who that's written for though.

Michael Moorcock The Eternal Champion series.
Or most of his other books, more than enough to keep anyone busy reading for a long time.

I would always recommend Terry pratchet a lot of his books especially the disc world series are aimed at both adult and younger readers .I always get the feeling each book has a underlying message that takes a bit of working out

Re: Fantasy books for grown-ups?
Richard Morgan - The Steel Remains
Joe Abercrombie - The Blade Itself
George R R Martin - A Game Of Thrones
And as above, Terry Pratchett.

Re: Fantasy books for grown-ups?
I can also recommend the Thomas Covenant novels as per above,
but current favorite for me is, Daughter, Servant, and Mistress of the Empire, by R.E.Feist and Janny Wurtz

Dragons of pern by anne mc Carthy, thats some 12 books or so, fantastic series, she's done other stuff too, notably the primes, tower & the hive etc, worth looking into .

Not really fantasy, though.
All based on genetics and fall of civilisation, rather than swords and sorcery...
