Sad news, one of my favourite Dr Who characters Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart was played by Nicholas Courtney.

The character Nick Courtney brought to life was an absolute legend. I only knew him from Target novelisations until he was brought back for Mawdryn Undead in 1983 ... later as the BBC began issuing old stories on VHS I got my first real chance to see him in his heyday.
I met him briefly, at an autograph session in Liverpool in about 1990. Must try to dig out the photo...

Oh, no!
I'll mention this at Redemption '11, which starts on Friday, if they don't know already. I shall definitely drink a toast to Nicholas. He brought the Brigadier (and, in Inferno, the Brigade-Leader) to life. His response to otherworldly things was always no-nonsense, shown best in The Daemons, faced with the gargoyle Bok:
"Corporal Bell. Chap with wings. Five rounds rapid."
He was a thoroughly nice chap, too; I met him briefly at Cult TV - '05, I think it was.

He returned as the [retired] Bigadier in the Sarah Jane Adventures a couple of years ago.
