Dan Dare
Dan Dare, the quintessentially "British" hero, and star of many comic strips and (IIRC) at least one TV series is to get his own film.
Sam Worthington (from Terminator:Salvation and Avatar) has apparently expressed an interest in playing the role of Dan in the movie.

Re: Dan Dare
When I were a lad I used to love the Dan Dare pages in the Eagle comic - the Mekon was a great villain, it will be interesting to see how it translates to film ...

Re: Dan Dare
I don't particularly obsess about any of this kind of childhood kitsch, but it annoys the hell out of me the way that 'Hollywood' desecrates these old gems, just to add some perceived value to their flaccid product.
"Hang on" you say, "Give it a chance! It might be really good."
Well, no it won't be.
It'll be "Dan Dare" in name only, amid some crappy, pot-boiler, recycled sci-fi plot.
Two words: Judge Dredd.

Which ironically would have been even less like Judge Dredd if not for Stallone's involvement!

Unfortunately, studios (in general, but Hollywood ones in particular) sometimes seem to have trouble understanding what makes a particular franchise interesting. Even if the people behind the movie do (the director, producer, writer, editor, actors etc), the studio execs sometimes don't, but will still interfere.
Sounds like this might have happened with Judge Dredd. They look at it, and think they can use a generic Sci Fi story, and just bung the name on and it will sell.
Hopefully, this won't happen with Dan Dare.

Re: Dan Dare
none of the hollywood moguls have had a new idea in years , so they must look to old films etc. to revamp . then send them out to a new lot of viewers

Re: Dan Dare
Pffft! usual stupid Hollywood thinking. However they will bring it up to date and totally ignore the British angle.
Funny how the rest of the world has to adapt to American language, dialect and view of the world BUT the great American people are deemed too dim to perceive and understand other people's language, dialects and world view according to Hollywood moguls..
