Favourite Music Download Sites?
Evening All,
I usually buy CDs so that I have the full album, but more and more often I'm finding that I don't like all the songs on the album.
Anybody care to recommend their favourite music download site where I can go to sample tracks that I might like to buy and then purchase and download just the ones that I want?

Re: Favourite Music Download Sites?
iTunes has a good selection and OK (ish) restrictions.

Re: Favourite Music Download Sites?
What sort of restrictions?
I take it they'll tie me to one device or something?

Re: Favourite Music Download Sites?
You can have up to five computers "activated" to play music/videos. You can "deactivate" one easily within iTunes, and once a year, you can deactivate all your computers (handy if, say, the HDD dies in one, so you can't deactivate it).
I think you get unlimited rights to burn the songs to CD. You can copy the songs to an unlimited number of iPods.
The downside is that that the only portable devices that support Fairplay (Apple's DRM) are the iPod and iPhone.

Re: Favourite Music Download Sites?
Ah, ok.
Probably puts me out of luck then as I don't have an iPod (yet)
Thanks though

Re: Favourite Music Download Sites?
I like HMV - but that's just because I've been using them a long time and haven't bothered to seek out somewhere else maybe?
I can always get the downloads and/or licenses back if i need to - say due to hardware failure or change of PC.
By experience I wouldn't go for somewhere that I need to subscribe to ever again... once I've ended the subscription I'm on my own in my experience ...
and often end up buying the CD/s

Re: Favourite Music Download Sites?
I get all mine from iTunes. Fantastic selection imho. Though I'd like more metal genre's if I'm honest. I burn to CD as my own personal backups. These can obviously be imported into any mp3 player, like an iPod or whatever..

Re: Favourite Music Download Sites?
Play's new download section is new and seems to be building up a good choice...

If I hear something I like, I take the illegal route, and download the stuff as a taster. If it's good I buy the cd (or cds). If not, I delete it. There's a grey area with 'one hit wonders' though...

Re: Favourite Music Download Sites?
I use Itunes myself and dont have an Ipod. What I do is just burn the tracks to a CD then rip them and load them on to my MP3 player

You could save yourself some money and burn to Virtual Drive instead
