Re: Gladiators is back!!
I am a big fan for entertaining shows, but sadly, Gladiators, even though it is back, has the same format, and the same games, and therefore, does not interest me, if you are going to have a show like that, and especially as it was successful last time, then they have to change it, it is like ' Celebrity etc' the American version, had them coming out of curtains, where the hell do you get curtains in the jungle, sadly Gladiators, gets a nil, from me.

The reason it has kept to the same format is that what made it work and if it ain't broke........
I personally don't like the new British own though. Just something about it I can't seem to get into it.
However the New American series is great. The old version was poor but the have taken a few things from our old series and it seems to work for them. Love it. Pheonix and Crush are amazing

It ain't broke? The UK version of Gladiators is a shambolic mess. Not only have most of the contenders been utterly useless, particularly the women, but many of the events are completely botched as well. The idea that the contenders aren't allowed to stop on the bridge in Hit And Run is one of the most retarded things I've ever heard. They were literally being shouted at to run straight into the oncoming balls, and one contender was disqualified when she fell over. What a disgrace. As if it somehow benefits the contenders to stop, when they're racing against the clock. Idiotic.
And then there's the Eliminator. I've seen busy supermarkets that presented a more challenging obstacle course than this. Another botched event. Not only is it too easy and too short, but contenders get a 15 second penalty for falling off the hand-bike!?!?!?!?! That's a ridiculously harsh penalty on a course that takes less than 2 minutes to complete.
There's also an obvious problem with the rolling pin. Where the American version had a rope for the contenders to hold onto, the UK version has nothing to hold onto, and as contenders come right out of the pool, their chances of holding on are further reduced, and nobody has yet managed to even hold on for a single spin, much less to the end. Didn't they test these events, before going on air?
And what's with the big, empty stretch between the balance beam and the pyramid? Did they run out of ideas for obstacles? This is just a comfortable jog for the contenders. Toughest obstacle course on the planet my ass. Put a snake pit in there, or a live tiger. Heck, let them see if they can make it past a video wall showing Eastenders without nodding off.
And finally, they need to drop Ian Wright. Is there a more useless presenter on TV anywhere? Gallagher is alright...ish, but I almost feel like the show would have been more fun if they had brought Ulrika back.
They really need to sort out these problem for the next series.

I agree entirely, and I've listed a few reasons above.

I couldn't agree more. Crush is awesome, and the new girl Jet, last year's winner, is more than worthy of that particular name, no disrespect to the original Jet.
All in all, the American version is far superior.

Re: Gladiators is back!!
The UK version just keeps getting worse and worse, and we're still only on week 3. This week had one of the most pathetic line-ups of contenders I have ever seen. The women put in what can best be described as clown-like performances, and the guys didn't do much better. One of them hurt his leg early on and hoppled through the last few events, and the other one didn't score a single point, before having to run The Eliminator by himself, because the other loser with the injured leg thought a bit of grand-standing and sympathy-milking would be more fun than allowing a substitute to take his place, as he was apparently unable to even start the Eliminator, despite a 7.5 second head start. Add to that the idiotic old referee, who seems to think his job is to ruin every event with a disqualification or repeated, nonsensical warnings, and you've got a complete train wreck of a show.

From your description supremus it doesn't sound like I'm missing much mind you Gladiators was never a must watch for me, the only thing I liked about it was that girl Jet.

Re: Gladiators is back!!
Yes, Jet was excellent. The American version has a pretty hot Jet as well. But besides from Jet, even the original series' Wolf was a memorable character. The new series just doesn't have anything like that. The only hook is the events, and when the contenders are as pathetic as they have been so far, it's really not much of a show.

Re: Gladiators is back!!
Have to agree with supremus on most of his opinions. Far too many rules that interrupts the game flow - esp hit and run. Could have been great but it pales in comparison to the american one which is a lot better.
