[MERGED] Tony Wilson RIP
Tony Wilson is dead...
Link
Quote:
Anthony Wilson, the music mogul behind some of Manchester's most successful bands, has died of cancer. The Salford-born entrepreneur, who founded Factory records, the label behind New Order and the Happy Mondays, was diagnosed last year.
The 57-year-old, also famous for setting up the Hacienda nightclub, underwent emergency surgery in January to remove a kidney.
He passed away on Friday evening in hospital.

Re: Tony Wilson RIP
Very sad day, for anyone who ever associates Manchester and music, he was the man...

Re: Tony Wilson RIP
Aww crap
Didn't know he was ill. His influence on music is still felt today. And apparently he was even the inspiration for Alan Partidge.

Re: Tony Wilson RIP
It's very sad to see a familiar face you grew up with pass like this
I hope that the music industry and media remember his work appropriately.

Sad day for anyone who was a clubber in the 80's and 90's (no jokes about seals, please).

Re: Tony Wilson RIP
Oh, no. Very sad news indeed.
RIP Tony.
Anyone else remember the TV show he used to do with Frank Sidebottom?
edit: seems there are contradictory stories of how he died. Some say it was related to his battle against cancer, whereas others say it wasn't related to cancer and he died of a heart attack.

Re: Tony Wilson RIP
I met him through my work many years ago and have always enjoyed his shows and appearances on Manchester Radio and Granada TV. I last saw him being interviewed just a few weeks ago he seemed so positive about living with cancer. I can't believe he's dead he was so much a part of the Manchester scene.

Re: Tony Wilson RIP
Some of the groups he helped clubbed together to pay for his medication, sad reflection on the NHS they could not fund it.
On a lighter thought he was the epitome of the music scene in Mancland. R.I.P. Tony.
