Third Ace Venture movie?
http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/movies/a...-go-ahead.html
Is to go ahead without Jim Carrey. While I have no problem with film "franchises" making changes to casting between films, films such as Ace Ventura,Bill and Ted (also due to have a third film minus Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves), Dumb and Dumber and "The Mask" (had a straight to DVD sequel) tend to work because people like the actor, or that the main actors have a chemistry that enables them to work together well.
People who like Jim Carrey films often like them because of the way HE plays the part (e.g. The Mask and Ace Ventura). Films such as Bill and Ted and Dumb and Dumber are enjoyable because the characters are likable, and the actors work together well.
Hollywood, in it's search for the formula for the perfect comedy film, seems to forget the importance of having good and/or enjoyable acting on screen.

The thing is Stu that people will still pay money to go see a third film in the series despite all that.

Exactly right, they're not bothered about anything else apart from $$$$$$$$$ 's
I think also, to be fair, alot of these films were made when the actors were up and coming, they themselves might think this sort of film below them, now that they are successful

Oh no I won't. Most of the films Hollywood make these days are the same old formula and it's getting boring.
I tend to go through the trailers on the Apple site to find something different.
This British film has caught my eye. Looks quite powerful.

If Jim Carrey came back, they'd pay for a fourth, fifth etc, as well.
I have to admit though, I don't like to see pointless sequels. The Son of Mask film being a case in point. The original Mask worked because of Jim Carrey's performance. The characters were not that strong, so when JC didn't return for the Son of Mask, it flopped.
Star Trek is an example of the opposite. It has always had strong, well defined characters, so sequels have always had some success even if they have been terrible. Apart from Nemesis, which was actually OK, but suffered from appalingly bad marketing.
