Amy Winehouse to do the next bond theme?
Apparently, David Arnold has backed a campaign to get Amy Winehouse to perform the title track for the next Bond movie.
He said "Amy Winehouse had the best record of last year. I haven't asked her yet, but I think she'd be good, although Bond songs can be a bit of a war zone".
I agree with what he said (and while I haven't worked on any Bond songs myself, I have heard it can get nasty). Amy would (I think) be excellent.
Having said that, I wasn't a fan of Madonna's Die Another Day, and while I liked the theme for Casino royale, it didn't really seem like a Bond theme to me. I like her songs, and I think Amy has the voice to carry it off.

So, over to you.. What do you guys think? If you think someone else would be better, why not say who in the thread?

Re: The next bond theme
As long as she stays sober she should make a good job of it lol Probably a better choice than some of the recent options.

watched a snippet of her at glastonbury and she was awful live. of course a record is very different and will be slick, but I would still be crossing my fingers.

Re: The next bond theme
I thought it was "Whinehouse"
It'd make me consider waiting for the DVD to come out rather than going to the cinema, just so I could fast foward the titles.
Can't even use the time in the cinema to get nibblies as they normally have a bit of the film before the titles.

Re: The next bond theme
Bring back the classic themes of the 60s films, even some of the 70s themes were OK, but how many of the latter ones still get played on the radio, or make you instantly think of Bond?
If Amy Winehouse, or indeed any current artist could recreate that memorable blockbuster song great.

Re: The next bond theme
Best Bond Themes (in my humble opinion)
1. A View to a Kill (yes I know it's Duran Duran, and it's probably the worst bond film - but what a great Bond tune)
2. Live and Let Die
3. Theme from On Her Majestys Secret Service
4. The Living Daylights
5. You Only Live Twice
6. You Know my name (Casino Royal)
7. Goldfinger
8. Diamonds are Forever
9. The Spy who loved me
10. Licence to Kill
I never rated any of the Brosnan title tracks.

Re: The next bond theme
The problem is that a lot of the early Bond films (and, indeed over half of the total amount) had music written by the excellent composer, John Barry. He even played the famous James Bond riff on Bass Guitar which provided the theme for Dr No (and is arguably one of the most recognised tunes ever). His style is very well defined (listen to the soundtrack for Enigma, for instance, it sounds very much like a Bond soundtrack). Thus, people have a very set idea of how a bond film should sound.
Apparently when he started working on Tommorrow Never Dies, David Arnold was told to make his music sound like it was obviously Bond (which, apart from the themes, he does), but he said in an interview that it is really hard to come up with something that sounds new, but still follows the same themes..

Re: The next bond theme
I think you need to know the tune before you could say who would be best to perform it.
I'd love to see it done by Feeder or Travis, but they'd need the right vehicle if it was to be any good...
If they ever remade OHMSS, the Propellerheads version of the theme would be a fantastic choice!

I love it as well, but I can't see them making the intro nearly ten minutes long..

Would give all us red blooded males plenty of time to ogle the semi-clad female silhouettes...

Re: The next bond theme
I voted "No".
Don't think much of any of the recent Bond themes.
Chris Cornell was great with Soundgarden & Audioslave, but I thought his song for Casino Royale was pretty poor for a Bond theme.
The Madonna one for Die Another Day was awful (still, the movie wasn't exactly great either, so I guess it fitted).
