Post 'Battlestar Galactica' to end.

Cult sci-fi show Battlestar Galactica is to come to an end after its fourth series. Despite being a success for Sky One, its executive producers have decided to end the show. The co-production with NBC Universal, Sky and US' Sci-Fi channel - a revival of the 1970s series which starred Dirk Benedict - will come to an end later this year in a 22-part series, currently in production in Vancouver. Executive producers Ronald D Moore and David Eik have said in a joint statement: "Over the course of the last year, the story and characters have been moving toward an end and we've decided to listen to those internal voices and conclude the show on our own terms." Info from Digital Spy.

Haven't seen S.3 yet, waiting for the DVDs - was looking forward to a few more years of BSG yet.

Well lets hope the Cylons/Klingonsy/Morons and any other 'ON' do away with that rust bucket in the first episode and then party because the last season was like watching paint dry.

All Along the Watchtower
An Indian-themed version of the 1967 Bob Dylan song "All Along the Watchtower" (popularly covered by The Jimi Hendrix Experience) features prominently in the third season finale "Crossroads, Part 1 and 2". McCreary's arrangement utilizes the electric sitar, harmonium, duduk, yialli tanbur, electric violin and zurna, and features McCreary's brother Brendan "Bt4" McCreary and former Oingo Boingo guitarist Steve Bartek.

The song haunts the characters Saul Tigh, Galen Tyrol, Samuel Anders, and Tory Foster throughout the two parts of "Crossroads" and plays over the final scenes of "Crossroads, Part 2": it is one of the few pieces of music in the re-imagined Battlestar Galactica that is both diegetic and non-diegetic.

You're obviously knowledgeable on the BSG series. I am old enough to know Dylan's and Hendrix's versions which reminds me to tape 7 ages of rock on BBC2 tomorrow. I will look forward to digging out McCreary's version from my loft collection (lol) when it is released (just did a google). As for the sound being diegetic or non, it sounds good in/out of background.

Re: 'Battlestar Galactica' to end.

So it's confirmed, then?

The Old Man did say recently that season 4 was to be the last...

My earlier reply to that news, from the BSG Season 3 thread:

I would much rather that BSG went out on a high, at a time which makes sense & ends things properly, than have it drag on & on & on & end up turning crap (like various other shows...).

My earlier reply to that news, from the BSG Season 3 thread:

I agree, while I deplore good series being (imo) prematurely canned (Earth2, Jericho, Invasion??) - I also think some 'popular' series can drag on too long, sometimes you need closure before it becomes too contrived, imo - it will be interesting to see how Heroes deals with this aspect ?

Re: 'Battlestar Galactica' to end.

Yep.

I don't want BSG to drag on & on and end up like e.g. The X Files, etc.

Having a proper end point, & a plan to lead up to it, is a good thing.

Re: 'Battlestar Galactica' to end.

Oh that's a shame! I remember when the new series started, it was refreshing to see that it had been revised for today's audience. Gone were all of the "brat" dominated story lines and especially those unnecessary annoyances like robot dogs called muffie and spotty little erks shouting "wow, jeepers, gee whizz", and all of those other typical American colloquialisms, etc.Yawwwwn!

Instead we were blessed with credible gritty characters, scenes and adult story lines, excellent stuff indeed. Let's hope that the last series has a credible finale.

Sigh.............!
