Time for... course selections!

I'm taking the following courses next semester (May to August 2004). I can't wait.

ACTSC 231 Mathematics of Finance 1
The theory of rates of interest and discount including the theoretical continuous case of forces of interest and discount. Annuities and sinking funds, including the continuous case. Practical and theoretical applications primarily to mortgages and bonds. Yield rates.

CO 350 Linear Optimization
A first course in optimization, emphasizing optimization of linear functions subject to linear constraints (linear programming). Problem formulation. Duality theory. The simplex method. Sensitivity analysis.

STAT 230 Probability
The laws of probability, discrete and continuous random variables, expectation, central limit theorem.

MSCI 211 Organizational Behavior
Introduction to the concepts of learning, person perception, attitudes and motivation in an organization. Consideration of communication, roles, norms and decision making within a group. Discussion of power, control, leadership and management in light of the above concepts.

BUS 121W Functional Areas of the Organization

How will being an accountant not benefit others?

Well, thats an opinion, and something we disagree on. I'm in it because a) I like it, and b) I want to make money. I'm not a subscriber to altruism.

Re: Time for... course selections!

Well if we're comparing modules then I'm studying 2 this year:

ST240 - Our Chemical Enviroment (30 points)
Quote:
This introductory course, which assumes little prior scientific knowledge, reveals the chemical ideas behind everyday items and experiences. It will put you in a position to make judgements about scientific and technical advances and their effects on your life, enabling you to answer questions such as ‘What happens to your body on a carbohydrate-free diet?’, ‘How do you choose an alternative fuel for cars?’, ‘Why is carbon monoxide poisonous?’, ‘How are drugs developed?’ and ‘Is a permanent wash-fast dye possible?’ You will see why such questions have to be approached at the molecular level.
S205 - The Molecular World (60 points)
Quote:
Chemistry is of enormous importance in everyday life: almost everything we are, see, make and eat is composed of molecules. This course offers a wide-ranging introduction to chemistry and its applications, integrating the three main branches of chemistry: organic, inorganic and physical. It covers the reactions of metals, the solid state, the shapes of molecules, thermodynamics, kinetics, the synthesis of organic compounds, structure determination by spectroscopic methods, bonding theory, periodic trends and non-metals. Multimedia materials are used extensively to provide interactive teaching of key concepts. Nine case studies look at topics of current interest including polymers, batteries, catalysis, drug design, liquid crystals and forensic science.

well there you go , you are in it because you want to make money , it isnt everything you know , i suppose you will balance this by giving something back to society instead of just creaming it all off for yourself

Re: Time for... course selections!

Money isn't everything, but it is darn near everything. I firmly believe in the profit motive. Never do I want to be unable to afford something I need... an education for my children, a good standard of living for my family, and able to show them the world that I've experienced so far.

My goal is to create several companies in various industries. I want to spend 3-4 years on a company and turn it self-suffient, and then turn it over to people to run it for me. I'll keep the majority of the shares. This will allow me to reach my real goal: to have enough capital so that I can live off interest and dividends after I turn 40. Ya... my goal is to retire by 40, and then do what I want to do. Archeology... history... languages...

edit: oh and, business administration and accounting (my major and minor) are extremely helpful to running businesses. I'm in a race with my brother and his friend. They've incorporated one company (graphics design) and are profitable. I've incorporated my own company (software writing) which is profitable, but I need to do some more marketing. I want to incorporate a second company, but I want to do that in Delaware where taxes and legislation are more favorable. I don't think it is so easy if I didn't know how to do books. My brother has to pay me to make sure his company's taxes are done properly.
