I noticed that the police element of my bill had also increased substantially & also felt that the only "value" recieved was 2 points last year
However the biggest increase by far (%age-wise) was the local Town Council Thank goodness, that's the smallest number in absolute terms on the bill.

I'd like to know WTF we actually pay for..
Like how much actually goes on refuse collection, how much we pay so the council workers get free parking etc. GRRRR...

Re: Council Tax
mine gets paid by DD
my bins get emptied & my bottles get recycled, I get Police, & Water, as well - imo wind all yer necks in, what we pay is fair - for what we get?
However - I could have a water meter installed - but I would not want to do without the Police

Well in Fareham (tory), while the gov funding is supposed to be about 50%, they're only getting 25% meaning they have to find an extra 25% in either savings or increasing council tax.
Look at Tory East Sussex who got only about 3p per capita for gov contribution to council tax!
Homealone, you pay water rates to your council?
Ours is paid to southern water and portsmouth water (one supplies clean water, the other treates sewerage)

mine gets paid by DD too - so what - it's still open wallet surgery
what we get here:
more traffic wardens hanging about booking you outside your own gaff
more revenue creating traffic cameras and police traps while burglars and muggers wander at their leisure
more council people retiring on the sick with index linked pensions
stealth tax - Blair you suck!

Not just council people but all civil servants and plod too.
Whilst we struggle to make up the shortfall in our pension plans, we are also having to contribute more to prop up their pensions too.

My ex who was a teacher had 8% of her salary taken for her pension. She didn't have a say in it.
And that just gave a pension based on the salary of the last three years of work.
So if you'd worked your way up to head, then decided that the stress was too much and went back to classroom teaching, you'd have paid in an absolute fortune, but get a pittance back.
Added to that, the average life expectancy of a retired teacher is only 2 years.
So the gov gets all that money, and doesn't have to pay much out.
