What colour is the tug?

On a serious note: Assuming they are in a weightless environment then the masses quoted are surely irrelevant? Additionally, there is no mention of a winch, simply the tug's engine. On that basis it is impossible to assume that they will ever "meet" given the 410m distance betwen them.

Thats the problem he is having also...it's doing our heads in since the tutor insists there is a solution to the equasion.

Is there any chance the solution your tutor is referring to is the rubber based one that he / she was sniffing when he / she came up with the question?

Well I've found the answer by searching for the line "at a time when mining asteriods"... took a few goes but eventually found it.

The only thing is shouldnt you be actually understanding it and working it out yourself rather than cheating a little

In space, weight is irrelevant, not mass - you will still get crushed by a heavy mass, and you will still have to exert force to move it - and they are connected by a line.
