Well as some of the many keen readers here maybe aware I have recently had some quotes for installation of 2 new windows plus a door and surround.
Firstly

thanks to all those for the sound advice given in those thread but the day of installation was Friday gone and I have given the breakdown below for those that can be bothered to read –
Fitters arrived well before the agreed start time

and started well Door and Surround is immaculate and they even agreed to fix the small roof overhang above it for no extra cost although and they even put together a little PVC box jutting out with a step as the old door was flush to the rendered brick work etc so it now has a step and looks cosmetically nice and all at no extra cost. (Well apart from me making numerous cuppas and biccies).

Now for the humour after several hours of banging and swearing they gave up on the upstairs windows and said mate you better look at this and they were honest and could have filled them with foam and covered with plastic and I would have been none the wiser.
But upshot is when the surveyor measured up he cocked up big style around 20mm short on both sides of both windows and height out by 15mm so there is a gap between the pvc frame and the brick work it bolts into.
So brand new windows with correct measurements supplied by the fitters have to be remade and the original surveyor has to pay for the old ones and the fitters unfortunately as they were top blokes do not get paid for the day they spent here as they only get paid on completion of job i.e. when I pay.
The install manager phoned me about 5 minutes after the fitters left and arranged for the surveyor to come back to personally apologise and show me where he went wrong on measuring up, like as if I am interested as I am not no genius when it comes to windows but common sense told me on the original survey he should have taken internal and external measurements.
Install manager also agreed to put through a priority re manufacture of the windows and they will be ready in 7 to 10 days time.
As it stands now the windows are in with a couple of mm gaps each side so praying for no rain, although the fitter did assure me no rain will get in unless it is blown in though the small gaps and fortunately we sleep in the back bedroom so draft not an issue and whilst I am happy with the door and surround they have exposed a crumbled concrete floor as the new door is fitted slightly further out.
Also where they have tried to temporarily botch fit the wrong sized windows (not fitters fault as making the best they could of the windows supplied) it has moved the fascia boards out a bit which has resulted in the apex end boards being stretched and split slightly.

So with all of the above in mind plus the fact I have to put up with traffic noise, possibility of rain getting in, the draft and general coldness, the crumbled internal and external concrete exposed internally and another day off work for the refit I am after advice on what would be the best way forward to negotiate a result so to speak.
The other bit about the crumbled floors is dodgy ground (excuse the pun) as it was already crumbled but is now more visible and the contract states they will make good any damage caused during installation to plaster floors so I guess this ones up to me as it wasn’t caused during installation.

Funny part is of all the story is they still have the board up in the front garden saying another quality installation by ******* windows.
