Botched UPVC Windows Installation + Legal Advice

Well as some of the many keen readers here maybe aware I have recently had some quotes for installation of 2 new windows plus a door and surround.

Firstly thanks to all those for the sound advice given in those thread but the day of installation was Friday gone and I have given the breakdown below for those that can be bothered to read –

Fitters arrived well before the agreed start time and started well Door and Surround is immaculate and they even agreed to fix the small roof overhang above it for no extra cost although and they even put together a little PVC box jutting out with a step as the old door was flush to the rendered brick work etc so it now has a step and looks cosmetically nice and all at no extra cost. (Well apart from me making numerous cuppas and biccies).

Now for the humour after several hours of banging and swearing they gave up on the upstairs windows and said mate you better look at this and they were honest and could have filled them with foam and covered with plastic and I would have been none the wiser.

But upshot is when the surveyor measured up he cocked up big style around 20mm short on both sides of both windows and height out by 15mm so there is a gap between the pvc frame and the brick work it bolts into.

So brand new windows with correct measurements supplied by the fitters have to be remade and the original surveyor has to pay for the old ones and the fitters unfortunately as they were top blokes do not get paid for the day they spent here as they only get paid on completion of job i.e. when I pay.

The install manager phoned me about 5 minutes after the fitters left and arranged for the surveyor to come back to personally apologise and show me where he went wrong on measuring up, like as if I am interested as I am not no genius when it comes to windows but common sense told me on the original survey he should have taken internal and external measurements.

Install manager also agreed to put through a priority re manufacture of the windows and they will be ready in 7 to 10 days time.

As it stands now the windows are in with a couple of mm gaps each side so praying for no rain, although the fitter did assure me no rain will get in unless it is blown in though the small gaps and fortunately we sleep in the back bedroom so draft not an issue and whilst I am happy with the door and surround they have exposed a crumbled concrete floor as the new door is fitted slightly further out.

Also where they have tried to temporarily botch fit the wrong sized windows (not fitters fault as making the best they could of the windows supplied) it has moved the fascia boards out a bit which has resulted in the apex end boards being stretched and split slightly.

So with all of the above in mind plus the fact I have to put up with traffic noise, possibility of rain getting in, the draft and general coldness, the crumbled internal and external concrete exposed internally and another day off work for the refit I am after advice on what would be the best way forward to negotiate a result so to speak.

The other bit about the crumbled floors is dodgy ground (excuse the pun) as it was already crumbled but is now more visible and the contract states they will make good any damage caused during installation to plaster floors so I guess this ones up to me as it wasn’t caused during installation.

Funny part is of all the story is they still have the board up in the front garden saying another quality installation by ******* windows.

God, from the thread title I thought Zing had put ME on your new box when you'd paid him for Vista...

Maybe a passing mod can add UPVC to the title.

By the sounds of the fitters you had a good team there, they sounded like they were good at their jobs and new what they were doing, they were honest with you when the surveyor cocked up the measurments, the surveyor wants the tap measure wrapping round his neck and pulling tight. I bet he wasn't the flavour of the month when he got back to the office.

Re: Botched UPVC Windows Installation + Legal Advice

Sorry to bump my own thread but would appreciate it if someone could give some advice from a legal standpoint and supply any top peoples email addresses as am getting no where with the standard customer services email addresses.

Any info on Anglian Windows gratefully appreciated.

Thanks

Thanks Paul.

Duly did and they were more responsive than Anglian.

However they would not take any action unless I signed up to appearing on camera.

Have had some calls todays from various Anglian directors and regional directors so things are looking up.

I bet if you let the Anglian lot know about the contact from X-Ray they'll move pretty sharpish...

Re: Botched UPVC Windows Installation + Legal Advice

Wer had our conservatory built by them.

Whilst they did a fantastic job, the salesman promised stuff that Anglian did not intend to keep. Fortunately for us, it was all written down on the contract.

Oh and if you get finance, and want to pay it off early, they are none too pleased.

They seem to be moving quickwithout that threat as today I think on the last count I have spoken to 2 area managers, 2 directors and an install manager and suprisingly the new replacement windows have been manufactured and are ready for me to confirm an install date this week.

Followed by a further inspection on completion to resolve the remedial works.

Re: Botched UPVC Windows Installation + Legal Advice

Well update for those that are interested.

New windows now fitted and are quality.

No need for X-ray TV Programme to get involved.

Multiple contact from Anglian head office and directors etc.

Scored a 20% discount off the price and they have rescreeded the floor behind the door and surround and have sorted the fascia and barge boards - result.

Have also got a £200 cheque to cover the dry cleaning of the blinds and curtains.

Again result.
