health screenings
Evening all,
Has anyone ever had a full health screening? I have been toying with the idea for a while. My company offers a discounted rate at nuffield hospitals and was considering going along..
if anyone has ever had one, what do they entail? are they worth it?

Re: health screenings
I wouldn't mind getting one of them done too, i know they'd tell me to stop smoking and lose weight, but i wonder what else...

Re: health screenings
I had one a couple of years ago, before I went on a "Leadership" course - I found it very useful. Think of it as an MOT test; If you're fine, you find that out - if there are any problems, you find that out, and you can try to do something about it.
I had blood tests, cholesterol tests, tests on a treadmills, various bodily fluid tests; I would recommend getting an assessment.

Re: health screenings
Would you want to know you're dying, or would you want it to be sudden. It's a tough question.

To quote Bob Monkhouse -
"I want to die peacefully and quietly whilst asleep, like my grandfather.
Not screaming and wailing, like his passengers!"

Re: health screenings
I think if more people had health screenings from time to time it would be a good idea. Taking care of our health and finding things early is a key thing to treatment.

Re: health screenings
But you found out in January that you had a year to live, would it be any better or worse than finding out in December?

Ah but you doctors cannot admit defeat - have to prolong life regardless of its quality Treat everything, whether there's any point or not. Hospitals to me are the killing fields - if what you go in with doesn't get you, something or someone else will. Live life to the end - never too late to start dying. By which I mean, I'd prefer to not know.

but if you find out early enough, you had some illness, cancer for example, you can get treatment. whereas if you had left it you could end up dying from it. sometimes it is better to know i think
