A Nutrition Test
For you to have a go at
http://msntestyourself.netdoctor.co....ritionquiz.php
My score:
You have scored 45 points, you are eating a well-balanced diet but could do better.
plus.....
Quote:
You are generally following healthy eating guidelines - which include filling up on on starchy carbohydrate foods such as pasta, rice and bread, eating plenty of vitamin-rich fruits and vegetables and keeping your fat intake within healthy limits. But you score indicates there are some areas where you could lapse into bad habits if you don't keep on top of things.
Watch in particular that your fat intake doesn't creep up and that you continue eating plenty of fruit and vegetables.
N.B. Whatever your diet, if you are drinking excessively, your health is at risk.

Let's see how you do....

Re: A Nutrition Test
You have scored 35 points, your diet could be improved.
Your diet is not too bad, but could do with some improvements. You don't need to completely start again; just improve the balance of foods you eat.
Try to bump up your fruit ands vegetable intake (especially brightly-coloured or deep-green ones that are richest in disease protective antioxidants), and reduce your intake of fat, particularly saturated fat in foods like full-fat dairy products, fatty meats and biscuits. Base your meals on starchy foods like pasta, rice and bread, and swap crisps and confectionery for fresh fruit, raisins or plain nuts. If you are eating fast food, pass up the fries and choose grilled burgers without mayonnaise, vegetable pizzas, or salads.
N.B. Whatever your diet, if you are drinking excessively, your health is at risk.
Our top nutrition tips - Include starchy foods, e.g. wholemeal bread, pasta, breakfast cereals rice at every meal. They are low fat and provide protein, B vitamins, minerals and fibre as well as energy.
- Eat five different servings of fruits and vegetables a day (including fresh or frozen, juices, salads and soups). They are the best way to get plenty of fibre, vitamins and other antioxidants - the basis of a strong defence against cancer and heart disease.
- Eat a couple of servings of protein a day to maintain healthy skin, muscles and tissues. Choose from lean meat, fish, poultry, eggs and soya.
- Eat one or two servings of dairy products daily. They provide calcium for strong bones, as well as B vitamins and protein. Try to stick to lower fat, e.g. skimmed or semi-skimmed, milk and yoghurt.
- Cut down on fat. Trim fat off meat and take skin off chicken. Throw away the deep fryer, swap butter for low-fat spread and aviod accompanying your foods with mayonnaise or cream.
- Go easy on sugar. Eat less sugary foods and confectionery like chocolate, sweets and full sugar fizzy drinks. Keep your alcohol intake within healthy limits (2-3 units daily for women, 3-4 units daily for men).

Re: A Nutrition Test
You have scored 52 points, you are eating a well-balanced diet, well done.
You can congratulate yourself on eating a diet that's as balanced as most people find it practically possible to eat. Remember it's important not to get too obsessed with eating healthily though; there are no good and bad foods - only good and bad diets. So, if you want to let your hair down occasionally with fatty or sugary foods, go ahead.

Re: A Nutrition Test
36. Utter ********. Bloody nutrition - totally out of touch with the real world. How am I supposed to eat 5 portions of fruit and veg a day when I only eat twice a day and don't like fruit? I'm not a rabbit. I have 30 mins for lunch, 15 mins of which is taken up walking to and from Boots to get a meal deal. I work in a call centre - munching whilst on the phone is totally out of order. I don't do it and I don't tolerate it in others. And who eats wholegrain rice or pasta? May as well chew carpet off-cuts and save electric/gas. Breakfast! Where am I supposed to find the time? I usually feel ill eating on a morning anyway. Can of diet coke suffices until lunch. Sooooo annoys me does this healthy eating lark.

Re: A Nutrition Test
I scored 58 points. However as I've just recently resumed a diet programme how can it be any other way...What I was eating a month ago doesn't bear thinking about.
Nothing like being given a health scare to get one on the treadmill again..As soon as I get my balance back I think I'll buy a bike as I've no time to take long healthy brisk walks.

walk before you bike - start with 5 minutes, if you have 'no time' for walking, why do you think a bike will change anything????
