Anyone been to Crete recently?

Going to Crete shortly, never been, any tips? What are typical food and drink prices?

Greece is a tad expensive for drinks, the food is OK though. 2.50 euros a botle when I was there, which isnt that expensive, but when you htink about how many drinks you would want it soon adds up. And the Euro is what??? 1.3 to the pound?

I was in Crete in 2004. Its a great place, if you dont mind travelling backwards and forwards throiugh the mountians

I went to malia, though I don't expect it to be representative of the rest of the island. I don't think I managed to get one greek meal in the whole 2 weeks.

The prices were'nt too bad, about 70 cents for a smallish bottle of amstel/mythos in the shops. Anything english is obviously more ie 1.50 euros for a chocolate bar etc.

EDIT: You can pay anywhere between 3 and 20 euros for dinner + drinks.

3 being something basic, hamburger/chips

20 being a nice steak with potatoes or w/e
