Calling Dr Salu!
One for the resident doc!
Had a cold for a few days (thanks to the GF) - had a few dizzy spells on Sunday / Monday. Normal bloke practice is to do......absolutly nothing becuase it'll go away by itself but the GF got me to phone the doc.
Had a phone appoitment this morning and been told I probably have some ear infection causing balance to go - in turn causing dizzy / sickness...
Been perscribed some prochlorperazine maleate tablets - can't find anything that says they are to combat the dizzyness - just the sickness. I suppose it's all connected in some way...ENT and all that....
So - Dr Salu - what does this drug do then?
BTW - Ear Nose and Throat - what a bloody stupid combo - who thought of that!!

which one of you said that ?
it is used for treating phsychiatric illness, but in higher doses than when used as an anti-emetic.

Ohhh - it's my birthday today and I was planning an evening of drunken antics such as looking through peoples bathroom windows whilst they where in the shower....

Re: Calling Dr Salu!
Prochlorperazine (also known as Stemetil)
Simple explanation - It stops the "feeling sick" signals from getting to the brain and registering nausea.
Technical explanation - It belongs to a family of drugs called phenothiazines. They are dopamine antagonists which block the dopamine receptors in different areas of the brain.

Re: Calling Dr Salu!
Does it actually help with dizzyness symptoms?

Re: Calling Dr Salu!
Sorry, that'll teach me to skim read your post...
Yes it may help with dizziness although noone actually quite knows the exact mechanism. Paradoxically it can also cause dizziness.....you'll have to try it and see. It can have a sedative effect on some people too and alcohol will potentiate this effect and make you drunk quicker too....

I used to take stemetil tabs regurlarly as they were prescribed on repeat for stigmatisms i used to suffer.
Not too sure how they cover sickness.

As an old hand of the ENT they logically go together as they are all connected. I had grommets fitted (ear), Adenoids removed (nose) and Tonsils removed (throat) all at the same time (in the days when they operated on New Years Day )
Good luck and I hope the medication works.
