Nissan Micra Overheating problem

Hi,

I've had a Nissan Micra for a couple of years now and had few problems with it. However, on Friday I noticed the temperature of the engine going into the "red" zone. I thought it might be because it was a hot day so I got home, opened the bonnet and it seemed very hot and making "overheating" type noises. Then today, I drove it back to my dad's house, and again it went into the red zone. However, this time the "check engine" light came on so I pulled over. My dad came and put water in it, checked oil and all that and it seems fine, but the light is still coming on... the temperature has gone down as it has been sitting outside for a few hours, but I just turned it on and the light is still on it saying check engine. Has anyone got any other ideas wat it could be? I'll take it to the garage and have to miss work tomorrow otherwise, but if I have to do that, then I will!! Cheers in advance.
Simon

Re: Nissan Micra Overheating problem

hi smicer07 wen it was over heating did u notice if the fan come on it could be a number of problems like fan, water pump, senser.

if u take it do a garage they will be able to plug the car into a pc and pull up the error log of why the check engin light is on

Re: Nissan Micra Overheating problem

Check the temperature of the hoses to the radiator, i will place bets that one is cool
If so its either the thermostat or an air-lock.
If need be wind the windows down and put the heater on full wack it will help until its fixed

Make sure there is no water in the oil, it could be your head gasket gone.

Re: Nissan Micra Overheating problem

Well I've driven it round the block a few times and the "MI" light is still on- checked the manual and it says this means there has been a malfunction in the control centre- whatever that means. Head gasket seems ok, fan seems ok... the question is, should I drive it home (30 minutes) and hope for the best, or wait and go to the garage in the morning? I assume it will probably overheat again so I think I'll go to the garage, I don't want to blow the engine or something?

Like i said, turn the heater on full wack,
And drive like its nearly out of fuel, if need be stop, wait, then carry on
BTW if the heater doesnt get hot, stop and dont drive it.

I wouldnt touch it with a bargepole, they only do free checks to scam people with new brakes, shockers and tyres etc

One hose should be cooler than the other Marky, Proves that the Radiator is doing it`s job correctly.

But if the engine is cooking and the hose is cool then its a coolant flow problem.

As in very cool, i would expect it to be hot but not to hot

If it was a flow problem, the engine would not be getting overheated.

If the thermostat had stuck shut or there was an airlock, i would have expected the car to have boiled up by now.

Sorry but the engine did overheat and correct me if i'm wrong but the electric temp stat is normally on the thermostat housing.
But i'll take a step back as it could be the fan wich is controlled by the sensor in the rad.
And only time will tell now, greenies loaded and ready

Lol, It`s not a battle mate. If i`m wrong i`m wrong.
Simon, Does the fan cut in?
And what are " Overheating type noises"? Bubbling? Gurgling?

Pretty sure on the Micra`s they have the switch in the Radiator.
