The data protection law?

I used to run a Irc server (Internet relay chat) and paid a hosting company to well host it for me.

The hosting company had all my details. The server had very bad uptime so i left but on bad terms due to lack of service i had recieved. His friend then come on msn and said this

[23:49:21] Chris: Because i have for one
have your address.

[23:50:02] Chris: If i came down, id have to hurt you.

So i said

[23:50:53] Charlie: I will have you done under the
datd protection act

He then said this

[23:51:07] Chris: Data Protection?
[23:51:10] Chris: YOU
[23:51:11] Chris: NEVER
[23:51:14] Chris: GAVE ME YOUR ADDRESS
[23:51:20] Chris: Cliff did,

Cliff is the owner of the site that i had previously had hosting from.

He has also said today this

[13:02:45] Chris: Safe, I know
what you look like in your pictures and i know what your
daughter looks like. So its not going to be hard to find
you is it?

Now walk on son, walk on.

Can i do anything about this?

Err, yes - take it to the police. Issuing threats like that is an offence, never mind the DPA. And you have it logged.

You need to get the police involved nevermind the data protection bods.

Thing is if i go police i have no details of where this guy is living or phone to pass on. How would they find him?

They will be able to probably via his msn account. They can get those details from msn I should think.

They can also speak to the hosting company.

What are you trying to do that makes them say 'walk on son, walk on'?

Why are you still in contact with them if you left them?

The guy who said is not part of the hosting company. Just a friend of the owner.

I forgot i had him on my list.

He is now blocked

Get hosts Address off his Domain... Use http://www.geektools.com/whois.php & look him up

You do need to speak to the police, at least you will have something on record even if they cannot contact him. Then if he does something it can be reffered to.

Well i just looked up his site and it does give a address out.

So i will be contacting the police and giving them that address

I sent a email asking if he wanted to stop this crap but not in them words and i got this back

"If you stop being a ***** you and your family will pay for your stupid childish behavior.

Now DONT contact me."
