Question Window Blinds or similar

Morning All.

I work from home and have a south facing office (upstairs room). I can not change the room, and due to its layout I have to face the window when working.

The sun is driving me nuts - meaning I need to have the curtains closed for most of the day and the light on (how mad is that! ).

Anyone have any suggestions. I could of course go for a blind, but what I am looking for is something which maximizes cutting out the sun but still lets daylight in. Are there coatings out there which might do the trick? Some of you are also bound to work at home so I'm wondering what you do..?

cheers

Mark

Re: Window Blinds or similar

venition blinds can angle the glare upwards allowing light in but directing the dazzle elsewhere

Or how about a curtain on a net rail half way up the window blocking the light that gets you at your desk but allowing the upperhalf through

You don't have to have a 'blackout' blind. Any standard rollerblind would do, it would cut down on the dazzle but still allow some light in, especially if the sun comes directly through the window. Or you could look at a pair of light cotton tab-top curtains - more substantial than nets so they will dissipate the light, without reducing it by very much. There are loads of options. Your best bet is to visit your local John Lewis (if there's one near you) or similar and have a browse.

Re: Window Blinds or similar

I would personally get vertical blinds and just angle them so the light gets through but the glare of the light gets blocked out for where you're sat. They have those blinds at work, come in very useful

Re: Window Blinds or similar

Probably not really suitable, but you can get a whitewash that is painted on greenhouses to cut down the direct sunlight.

Re: Window Blinds or similar

Venitian blinds are better for glare reduction and also for completely shutting out the light, they also only take up a small amount of window space. Vertical blinds need a good clearance from the window in order to work properly

See examples here
http://www.newinteriors.co.uk/veneti...vre-blinds.htm

Silver coloured on at least one side would also help to reduce the heat direct sun can generate.

Interior Window coverings of all sorts used to be my trade.
