Kleenex anti bactrial tissues

You might have seen the tv add, with the buddist guy picking up the baby turtle, rescuing the spider etc......

Then when he blows his nose, the slogan comes up "kills 99.9% of cold and flu viruses in the tissue".

My question to all you clever people is, why the hell cant they just turn the stuff thats in the tissue into a pill that we can take, to kill 99.9% of out colds and flu viruses in side our bodies?

This has been bugging me, as you can imagine

Re: Kleenex anti bactrial tissues

And they say 99% just to cover themselves if it doesn't do the job.
Just like the toothpaste/mouthwash/spot cream/tongue scraper ads, they show a few bacteria/plaque left to cover their backsides.

Re: Kleenex anti bactrial tissues

What bugs me is why do we even want to kill the germs once they are outside our bodies and in a tissue?
iirc, they won't survive there anyway....

So they can live for 3 hrs in the bin....
imo this is just a way to get people to part with more money for bits of soft paper

absolutely - last time I bought some of the 'balsam' impregnated ones I forgot & tried cleaning my glasses with one - well smeary.

- was quite interesting in that article that regular hand washing can be effective in helping to reduce transmission of the virus - I had tended to only think about airborne transmission.

Re: Kleenex anti bactrial tissues

And depending on the bactericide used, we could well be breeding germs immune to that particular bactericide. Never mind, it makes money for the companies.

the thread title is misleading, when compared to the advert - the tissue in question is 'anti-viral' - not 'anti-bacterial'.

Bacteria can reproduce independently.

Viruses need a host

Most people catch the flu through finger to eye contact.
Which is why when you have an office like mine with air conditioning, hot desks (so you share computers), and blokes who tend not to wash their hands regularly, along with 5 year old keyboards (mine is furry between the keys, and I caught my colleague's keyboard scrurrying towards the exit yesterday...) you get a lot of sickness.
