Charging VAT question
I have to do a quote for a saudi firm. For simplicity lets say its for £5000 for a trainer to do a course over there.
We are VAT registered and if the quote was for a UK firm it would be for £5000 plus VAT.
Do we charge them.....
a) £5000 no mention of VAT
b) £5000 plus vat £5875
c) £5875 no mention of VAT
cheers

Re: Charging VAT question
doesnt it depend on where the course takes place?

Re: Charging VAT question
I think you will find as they are not a member state of the EU then they don't pay VAT but im not sure weather it is claimed back by them or by your company. Would be different if the course was over here

Re: Charging VAT question
Hmm from what I rememeber from selling gps kit online if requested we put in a VAt claim form that they could fill in.
If anyone knows a definitive answer I would be grateful.

Re: Charging VAT question
Would they not have to pay the VAT (or country equivalent) in Saudi?

Re: Charging VAT question
If they are outside the EU you don't charge VAT. thats definitive just asked our accountant.
If they are inside the EU you can zero-rate it if they have a VAT number otherwise you charge VAT.

If you are supplying goods and/ or services outside the EU then you do not charge VAT on them, simple as that.

Re: Charging VAT question
I think you'll be VAT free with it being in Saudi.

Re: Charging VAT question
Why don't you ask HMRC for a definitive answer?

Because they'll probably try to find a way that they *can* make you liable for VAT even if you shouldn't pay it...
