Re: Car Insurance Recommendation ?
Try www.aquote.co.uk or www.confused.com - I've found them to be good in the past - they get you about 10 quotes each IIRC.
Good luck!

Re: Car Insurance Recommendation ?
Carole Nash - don't quote online and won't necessarily be the cheapest but the policy includes breakdown (proper cover), motor legal protection etc. Having had to put a claim through them earlier this year I know their claims people are spot on. This contrasts starkly with the experience of my partner who went with one of the big boys who used to boast you can't get quicker than - can't get more blinkin' useless more like. In fact she's had a letter from their uninsured loss people today asking for her to provide details so they can pursue her claim; this despite the factr she told them about 10 weeks ago to sod off, and has since got a credit hire car through someone else, returned it, had her claim settled and bought a new car!!!
Sorry for the rant but at least I feel better.
So my advice, watch out for cheap quotes. Like anything, you get what you pay for.

Egg offer discount for buying online but best of all if you've got an Egg card and pay the premium off in full with said card they were offering 12mths interest free to pay.

Re: Car Insurance Recommendation ?
I am with Royal Sun Alliance. Very comprehensive cover - includes breakdown cover, European driving, legal cover and more. Used to be with Privelege but they becam too expensive when I changed car. A lot of companies will do specific deals for different cars.

Re: Car Insurance Recommendation ?
These were cheaper for me. It does depend very much on your job and where you keep your car. For some odd reason clerical workers get cheaper car insurance. However mine was still pretty cheap when I only classed myself as a Govt employee.

Re: Car Insurance Recommendation ?
Odd, you say Direct Line are bad for you. I've always found them cheapest. I suppose for each insurer it depends on their perception of the risk at the time they take you on, and what types of risk they want to balance their odds

Direct line are one of the most expensive for insurance. I've got full no claims so I decided to phone direct line for a quote for a new car £710 they said. I'll leave it I told them, have you had a quote from anywhere else they said, yes I said and it was much cheaper than you. Go to your local insurance broker in town and they will sort you a deal out and they will help you if you ever have a accident. I went to Bond Insurance in Mansfield who got me fully comp with windscreen cover excess £25, if I have a accident the car will be taken into a local dealer to be repaired on the spot with no hassle, free loan car etc etc. Price £375 for the year, that will do me. Direct line you can go to hell.

Re: Car Insurance Recommendation ?
I had the opposite experience, Direct Line beat everyone by such a margin that when I rang others up and told them what I was quoted they didn't even bother to quote me because they couldn't beat it. A couple of people even laughed because they couldn't believe how low my quote was.

Re: Car Insurance Recommendation ?
Got to go with lippy on this and say Tesco (like I always do ).
When I first started driving 4 years ago, everywhere was quoting around 1000 quid, but Tesco halved it

Re: Car Insurance Recommendation ?
Confused.com go to a selection of insurers and do the leg work for you. I've just used them and Admiral came out cheapest, although I'm probably going to pay slightly more and go with More Than, with their Guaranteed No Claims Bonus for life - your premium won't go up if you make a claim and you won't lose your no claims bonus - with the amount of uninsured drivers that seem to be on the road it seemed a wise precaution.

Re: Car Insurance Recommendation ?
I'm currently with Direct Line.
I was with elephant for 1 year but they were so completely and utterly useless I went back to Direct Line.
I'd happily pay an extra £20-30 not to have to deal with that shower of cowboys.
