Re: Help With College Work Please
Why not contact your local police station for information? Surely they would be the best place to ask??

Re: Help With College Work Please
Those are not necessarily questions that policemen/forum members can answer. You need nuetral info of a statistical nature but I'm not sure where you can get such info...Have you asked at your library? They may have some suggestions of WHERE to look for answers.

Re: Help With College Work Please
Try website of The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister,
www.odpm.gov.uk
They are responsible for all policing in UK, it may take a while to sort the wheat from the chaff but the information you require should be on there.
Enough history, organisation, initiatives and statistics to fill a prison.

Re: Help With College Work Please
I thought it was the Home Office which dealt with the police.

Re: Help With College Work Please
Look at the website(s) of various police forces. They may have details of the local policing plans showing what the police consider their priorities are, after consultatinon with their partnership groups, public, home office directives ,etc.
Biggest changes in police, as with any organisation, has to be the evolvement of technology. Radios replaced the phone box on the corner. Now radios upgraded with the airwave system. Computerisation leads to increased data collection, and perhaps detection. Improved kit - truncheons replaced years ago with battens, use of stab vests, better handcuffs, etc.
Policing methods and proceedures evolve - human rights act is a pain in the butt - increased documentation to deal with legal technicalities, avoidance of "institutional racism" leads to increased monitoring of anything to do with ethnic minorites, attitidues to domestic violence, neighbourhood policing.
Most of this is stuff that, if you have any interest in the police service, you would have picked up from the media over the years.

Sorry,
I was having a blonde moment, actually pink as I'm bald, I am doing some work for both departments on arson prevention with both agencies and they become blurred in my brain. Everyone has a rank, except me, but all dress in civvies.
Mea culpa
