Wood chippers

Hi all,

I have cut down a problem bush/hedge thing, that is growning out of control, during the summer.

The council refuse to lift it until it is cut up and bagged, whuich will take a lot longer than cutting down the bush in the first place.

I was wondering, if there is a machine I can hire that would chip the bush into more managable bits for bagging.

if so, where would I hire from?

then next thing is the bush is back and growing even bushier, how can I get rid of it?

Re: Wood chippers

Try your local HSS shop. You should be able to hire some kind of chipping machine.

As for getting rid of the existing bush, IIRC there is something that you can get from a gardening centre that will kill it off very quickly. The trick is to kill the roots. I have a vague memory of someone putting petrol on a stump to kill the roots, but I wouldn't recommend it! Alternatively, check the Yellow Pages for a local tree surgeon.

Re: Wood chippers

thanks,

I was thinking of HSS, but I could not remember the name of it.

I looked up Yell.com for it, and found one, near me, I will have a look soon.

thanks

I went out on my new bike for the first time today, just there, and I found some guys collecting wood for a fire, which surprisingly enough the fire brigade is coming to inspect and the council has allowed, because of the brigade going to inspect.

so I suggested they collect the bush, they were over the moon, and are collecting as we speak.

what a bit of luck for me.

Brushwood killer is what you need. If it's for the stump, drill holes in it and pour in the liquid. The bad news is that you then have to wait for the stump to rot. It took 10 years for the stump of a tree that came down during the great storm of 1987 to rot sufficiently for me to dig it out.

there is not as huge stump, but there is lots of them, and they are all over the place, I will need to cut it down again next year and do it.

Re: Wood chippers

What you need is a tool called a Mattock a brilliant implement for getting out roots.
