Angry Problems with Neighbours

Hi All,

Any advice greatly recived here we go....

I have problems with my neighbours they have wrote a letter to the water board about use of a sprinkler. (sorted out now i know not to use one).
I have recived a letter from the council about noise (diy)only at weekends from 10am till 16:00. Sunday 11:00am ish till 15:30 ish.
I have replied to the letter to the council and they said ok time limits are ok.
Got a second letter from council about noise again but this time I went to see them they seem to be on the neighbours side but i tried to explain that the diy are in the time limits you set they said we will let you know.
However I tried to get him to come to my address but he didnt want to know.
Also the neighbours do rude signs out of the window and shout abuse at myself and my family. there are more things to tell but i would have to buy a new keyboard to explain to the full I am at the end of my wits I have a young family and want to be left alone any help PLEASE........

Without taking sides, it depends how loud your DIY is and how often, but you could complain about the abuse

Re: Problems with Neighbours

There are no easy answers here. IF relationships with neighbours break down, they are usually irrecoverable. Many councils do have a neighbourhood dispute mediation scheme. Might be worth enquiring of the council?

Do you own your home or rent from a local authority / housing association. If you rent, the housing office may be able to offer advice.

DIY is a pain in the backside if you are using noisy tools every weekend. It's not just limits agreed with council environmental health but also being neighbourly, and giving them a break.

However issues sound like your neighbours are just as bad. If their signs etc are too bad, speak to police about harassement and display of offensive signs (a crimilar offence - public order).

Beware if your own private home, dispute with neighbour will badly affect value as most purchasers will ask if any disputes, you have to answer truthfully, and so buyer walks away from purchase.

Seems to me they don't really want to get on with you. However get hold of your local Councillor and get them to help you, this sort of thing is what they are there for. It may take some time but try to get a mediation service in as soon as possible. Do you know if anyone next door works shifts? This can also be a big problem, if they bothered speaking to you properly this sort of information would be known.

Keep a diary of everytime you receive abuse and also make a note of exactly when you are doing DiY or some other particularly noisy task.

Good luck.
