Car advice

Hi

Anyway got a problem with car. The other day it stalled on me. Then it would
not start.

When i first start the car it grumbles on 1k for about 5 seconds before
letting me rev it. Then its fine. I took round the block and when i got back
to top of my road it cut out again. Luckily i live on a hill so i just
rolled back to my house.

Battery seems fine. Before it broke down it was left for about 2 weeks. As i
did not need to use it.

The car is a Ford Orion Ghia 1.6i. It has a XR3i engine and has run fine
before this.

Thanks for any advice.

Re: Car advice

Does it cut out at about the same time every time? If you avoid going up the hill, does it run longer? Its injection, so no carb, but checked the air filter? Checked your oil level? Does it run smooth before stalls? What happens when it stalls, just cuts out instantly?

Re: Car advice

If it started up ok then the battery is probabley fine.

As said in the other posts it could be anything but your best changing the fuel and air filters anyway.

With it standing for a couple of weeks it sounds like a sticking valve.
Ford engines can have a problem with this, use 5w30 engine oil in the future.

Change the spark plugs and give the car a good run at high revs.
The firing order should be 1,3,4,2 from the front of the engine (belt/pulley end).

Re: Car advice

Check and clean all of your breather hoses.
Look in the bottom of the air filter housing to see if its full of oil.
