I have heard good things about portable DAB radio's! Such as... http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/...673500-0556461 Not sure if it's what you are looking for tho.

Re: a powerful compact radio ?
How very confusing. I've never heard them called 'powerful' before!
You want a selective/sensitive radio. One of the main things to look for are the filter specs - a lot of cheap radios have 400 or 300kHz filters. You really want either 180kHz or even 150kHz filters, e.g. the same as in most car radios.
No doubt, most shops selling even quality radios may not be able to tell you about this. Have a look at www.nevadaradio.co.uk, they've always been spot on with me.
As for DAB, that's a whole different ball game. Without being too technical about it, you really want either a Pure model at home or a Philips DA1000 or Elansat if you're on the move. Of course, DAB is far more pricey and not necessarily any better for what you need - all it offers is more choice, the sound quality is no better than FM!
James, who spends far too much of his time writing about these things and attempting to understand the concepts behind it!
(Oh, and if you want more advice from people who know what they're on about - more than me! - try www.ukonair.com )

I was just trying to be thorough - I don't think the OP wants DAB at all.
