Re: Nirvana album 'most overrated'
That does surprise me... but then I guess that people who listen to BBC6 aren't really representative of fans of all types of music...

Who the hell cares? If you like it, then great. If you don't, then that's also great. Why should anyone cast aspertions on people's choice of music. Its not like there are any right or wrong answers here.

I am a bit of a fan I must say - or rather I was as an angst-ridden teenager.

Re: Nirvana album 'most overrated'
Yeah but no harm in a little music discussion - especially as the original topic wasn't 'Do you like Nirvana' but rather the suggestion that one of their albums was overrated.

Re: Nirvana album 'most overrated'
Angst-ridden teenagers in 1992 are now 26-31 years old.
I like it, but then I'm at the upper end of that range, and their music reminds me (ah, nostalgia) of touring Eastern Europe in a bus - the locals we met were all mad on Nirvana (and the Beatles, for some reason). So I associate it with freedom, walls coming down and crossing boundaries that would have been almost impossible two years before. And salt mineral water and crap food, of course.
Anyway, they were still dead popular in Seattle when I was there. And Jimi Hendrix was from Seattle, so there. Got to be good.

Re: Nirvana album 'most overrated'
I like the album, but I don't think it is the best one I have ever heard.
I think that a lot of albums end up overrated by the music media.
e.g.
The Verve: Urban Hymns
Pearl Jam: Ten
Oasis: Any; as they are all crap
Beatles: as above
Coldplay: cause they suck
Radiohead: I like radiohead, but there is nothing special about their albums
a small selection. don't get me wrong I have a few Radioheads, Pearl Jam, the verve but none of the others.
my favs are the likes of Led Zeppelin.
I tend not to listen to the hype of:
"Utter Brilliance"
"sheer music gold"
"their most complete <insert bands name here> 'ness"

Re: Nirvana album 'most overrated'
Its still one of the best selling albums, up with Prodigy and REM-Automatic for the people.
I think its one of the best albums I have. It's certainly got a higher percentage of good tracks on it that most. 'Come as you are' makes me tingle when it comes in.

Re: Nirvana album 'most overrated'
I agree with Punky on this. I once said to a friend "You probably think I have bad taste in music", and his reply was "Your taste isn't bad, it's just your own taste".
Having said that, I was never a fan of Nirvana; IMO just another "latest thing" band that youngish kids latched onto. To me, true greatness is shown by longevity, not just by how many albums are sold, or by surveys. Thinking back a few years, I remember a survey which claimed that three of the ten greates singles ever were by... Bros. Kind of says it all really!
