Re: Palimpsestic anyone?

Thanks people. I came across the word in a literary theory book I was reading. The definitions given kind of match what I think the guy is saying so I think I will assume that he wanted his text to sound proper good like, so he took an old word, added a few letters, and decided a slightly new meaning for it.

Yes, parchment didn't grow on trees (more like animals, I suppose) in those days. You couldn't pop down to W H Smiths and get a new parchment pad for a few groats.

And don't forget the similar phrase, a tabula rasa, an erased tablet or a blank sheet.
