For the Scottish lot
Hey guys,
Your opinion please.
I have a friends wedding to go to.
Now normally, the weddings I got to, would involve me getting the kilt hired for me, as I have been an usher at every wedding I have been to (not many).
But I have my own Kilt, (modern hunting Stewart).
I also have the brogues, socks, flashes/garters, belt, sporran, sgian dubh, kilt pin.
But I have a ghillie shirt, but I am going to need a formal shirt.
I want to wear a scrunchie tie with the kilt, so I would need a high button waistcoat.
now my question is, which jacket to hire that would go with the high button waistcoat/scrunchie tie?
Argyll or Prince Charlie?
your opinions are very much appreciated and in need of some urgency, as I was going to the reception, but now been invited to the full thing in less than 2 weeks time.

Re: For the Scottish lot
Ikthius, have you got any pictures of these ensembles that we could look at to reach a conclusion? I've tried Googling for them but I'm none the wiser!

try Google Images, Chim, - and afaik a 'scrunchie' tie, is a cravat.
Ik - I would go with the Argyll, most of the pics I've seen of the Prince Charlie are with a bow tie????

Re: For the Scottish lot
Thanks Homer!
I've found some and I agree with you - the Prince Charlie has too many buttons on it for my liking, I much prefer the Argyll style.
so it's Argyll 2, Prince Charlie 0 so far!
And enjoy your self at the wedding, Ik - we want pictures in your full wedding outfit too!

Pictures available here
Personally I'd go for the Argyll.

Re: For the Scottish lot
Well, i would personally ask the personnel in the Kilt shop for their opinion, but although i always wear the Charlie, i also always wear a bow tie.
I would say that the Argyll in this case looks better, but better check your not breaking some unknown rule as theres always some smart ass who will point it out.

Re: For the Scottish lot
links, please play with the site:

http://www.kintail.co.uk/

the prince charlie is a nicer jacket that the argyll, but I know what you are talking about.
I have attached a couple of images, but maybe not best quality, the prince charlie has more buttons, and is more formal/better looking.
BR: that is absolutely true, there is always some smart a*se that knows best, but then again, they may complain about how I tied my laces of my brogues.
you will get a big green pip, after I have spread it a bit.

Re: For the Scottish lot
I prefer the Prince Charlie look but then again the times I have worn a kilt that is the style I have gone for as I prefer that look

to be honest I do not like the bow tie, so I am wanting to go for the scrunchie tie.
I do prefer the prince charlie jacket though
ik
EDIT:
Ok, I know I asked this because of the tie issue, but now I would like your honest opinion of which jacket regardless of tie.

Re: For the Scottish lot
tbh, Ik, irrespective of the tie, I don't think the Prince Charlie suits a high button waistcoat, myself - but I can only claim a Sister who lives in Scotland, so feel free to ignore me
(which goes best with the ginger wig/tam o'shanter combo, has to be borne in mind, too )

my niece was married in Ellon, she had a motorcycle escort of blokes in kilts & 'archie' wigs - it was quite a sight

Re: For the Scottish lot
You go with the Argyle Jacket, usually the fancy one (Prince Charlie) is worn by the groom and best man etc.
Thats what I have always been led to believe anyway!
