Angry Aviva car insurance

It's that time of year where i have to renew my vehicle insurance ,i have traded my van for a car as i no longer need a van .Nothing has changed on my policy except i now own a 10yr old fiat instead of a 10 yr old van however the renewal quote from Aviva is over 100% more than last year .I paid £1,250 for fully comp van insurance with tool cover ,replacement vehicle ,breakdown cover and legal ,the new quote for the car is £2300 without courtesy car ,breakdown and legal they are saying that the reason for the increase is because of the sharp increase in car crime and non insured drivers .I am astounded that insurance companies can be allowed to get away with this sort of profiteering

Try confused.com, they do some good deals on insurance. Maybe try Direct Line on their website, they can do some good deals as well.

Re: Aviva car insurance

It does not matter if you go any of the so called insurance sites nowadays such as confused.com, gocompare or moneysupermarket as you will find that after putting all your information in they all give exactly the same result, which shows that in some way they are all now linked.

As for directline try them as long as you do not have a dodgy ticker.

My best price was from LV Liverpool Victoria who have not been beaten on price for the last 5 years.

I got fully comprehensive on a 12 plate Fiesta for £358 with 3 points for speeding on my licence.

They'll all be trying it on to increase their profits, using any excuse they can find. And we'll all suffer because of it as usual.

All insurance companies weight their premiums according to what sort of business they want to attract. For whatever reason, Aviva wants your white van man business but they don't want your man-in-a-banger(ish) business.

As you have already discovered, shopping around can make a vast difference to your premium. Incidentally, having a Scottish postcode also helps, as it's not as easy to pursue spurious personal injury claims through the courts here, so the insurance companies don't have to spend as much fighting them.

Re: Aviva car insurance

Although what they're going doesn't seem fair, if there has been a rise in car crime in your area or from vehicles similar to yours then your premium will rise too. Costs are based on risk factors. If in a particular postcode area there have been a number of attacks on BMWs then owners of them in that location will find their premiums will rise.

It's not fair if you've never made any sort of claim and especially if your vehicle is kept locked away but that's how insurance works unfortunately.

Re: Aviva car insurance

My experience is that once you've got the best price from a comparison site, go direct to the company and save around 10% - 15% more. This is the comission they would have had to pay.

One question i have is,have non insured drivers actually increased or has the detection of them increased .With the introduction of ANPR it makes it easy for police to detect a non insured driver ,they just have to park on a corner, eat their donuts and wait for it to go ping ,in the past only stopping a car or the driver being involved in an accident would reveal they did not have insurance

I'm sure there's now something in place which prevents people from doing that. To stop the comparison site losing money there's something like an agreement in place that if you get a quote then go directly to the insurance company, they will simply give you the same price as the comparison did. It's based on the vehicle registration or something.

Yep ,already tried going direct to the Ecar site and the quote was exactly the same

Re: Aviva car insurance

Churchil have been fairly cheap on my 18yr old GTi 16V Metro. Fully comp with protected bonus was ~ £200 this year. Worth a look.

Don't think Aviva want your business.

That would be because any accident claim on your Metro would be settled as a write off, and they won't be expecting to pay out very much in those circumstances.

Sorry, I know it's your pride and joy, mine was as well, first car and all that, but mine (G reg) was written off at a cost of under £2,000 when it was only 5 years old.

Re: Aviva car insurance

I have been having a look at the car crime figures and it appears that the most stolen vehicle in Q1 of 2011 was the ford transit ,the vehicle i just sold and insured relatively cheaply

Top ten stolen vehicles in Q1 2011
1) Ford Transit
2) Vauxhall Astra
3) Ford Fiesta
4) Volkswagen Golf
5) Vauxhall Corsa
6) BMW 3 Series
7) Ford Focus
8) Mercedes-Benz Sprinter
9) Ford Mondeo
10) Honda Civic

http://carcrimeuk.blogspot.co.uk/

and here's a breakdown of the risky areas by local authority ,i live in a risky area can't say i'd noticed though and the latest figures used by the insurance companies seem to be years old
