Speeding
I was caught doing 38mph in a 30. Totally my fault and I admit to it.
I know I was in the wrong and will deal with what ever they give me.
But what will they give me?
I had been driving more or less 2 years to the date might be just under. And I have never been stopped before or got any points.
Any ideas. I have read 3 points and £60. Is this likely to be the case?
Cheers

Re: Speeding
Or they might offer you a driver rehabilitation course, will be a couple of hundred but you'll end up with no points..
Just that 3 points means that you;re on your last strike as another three points within your first two years will mean loss of your licence and a retake of the test.
Did you get a ticket? or did they say that it'll go to court? Either way it'll be three points but court you might end up with more/less of the fine depending on the mood of the magistrate

Re: Speeding
Well then you now have a 12 point limit, doesn't mean to say though that you have to get anymore points...
The points though may effect your insurance costs and you should inform them

Re: Speeding
Should be standard fixed penalty,
If they offer you the driving improvement course, take the points instead.

I did call my insurers just to see what they said. They said it would not be added onto my current policy but on the next one. So hopefully with another years no claims it may cancel out any additional costs.

you should get a fixed penalty of about £60 + 3 points .I was offered a drivers course instead of the points but still had to pay the fixed penalty .The drivers course is the same as the fixed penalty and the points didn't make any difference to my policy (Aviva) it's only when the points get close to 12 that the insurance is affected

Re: Speeding
I've had SP30 and SP70 on my licence over the years ... ... Fixed penalty both times. Once I was pulled over by hand-held trap, once caught by camera poking out the side of a van parked on an over-bridge on the short stretch of A74 that used to run from Carlisle to Gretna.
The Courts can't be bothered with minor speeding issues that just clog up the system. You wouldn't get close to a court summons unless you were outrageously over the limit when caught.

Re: Speeding
Credit to you for accepting responsibility and not complaining about it. As mentioned you'll get three points and the fine. Even if you're within the first two years you can amass 6 points before you're at risk of the licence getting revoked.

Re: Speeding
If you get offered the rehabilitation course instead of getting 3 points then take that course, although if you get done for speeding again at a certain time after(not sure of this time) then you will get those 3 points and then the 3 points on top of that for the second offence i think, but maybe wrong?

Re: Speeding
Some insurers are less harsh on you too if you take the course.

Re: Speeding
Some insurers class SP30's as a fact of life and as inevitable as the price of petrol going up.

If you do the course, it does not effect the insurance as you don't have to inform them.
