8 core cabling is widely used in alarm systems so it could be part of an alarm system, home or fire and that could be a buzzer or a sensor.

I could be completely wrong as well.

its not BT is it? i dont think ive got a BT line installed only VMs fat pipe and their skinny phone line

Nope, it's defunct cabling for an old defunct company that used to provide a form of cable TV long before NTL/VM
