Would I be happy with an android phone?
Ok guys, it's time to upgrade and join the smartphone generation.
I have an old symbian phone (Nokia 6303), which I hardly use, make essential business calls on it, send VERY occasional text, partly because I find the phone fiddly, and didn't have the patience to faff about trying to email with it etc.
MY other half has an iPhone, which I really like. I find texting much easier on the iphone, love the fact that I can surf for info while I'm out and about, love the way I can email, just generally like the interface. Also bear in mind that I have an iPad (just the basic original one which I got as a commission for setting up a sale some time back) so I use that loads, meaning I'm even more familiar with the Apple interface.
Ideally I would like an iPhone 4 (not bothered about a 4S), but I could do without spending quite that much/ committing myself to a £25+ contract per month.
So I'm wondering whether I can compromise with an android phone, (summink like an HTC Wildfire or a Galaxy Ace) . I have no experience of the android interface at all, and don't know anyone with one well enough to ask to have a play with theirs.
Has anyone made the switch from Apple to Android? Happy or disappointed with the result ?
Bear in mind that I'm linking to a Windows 7 'puter, so there aren't any compatibility issues there. It will be used mostly as a business tool, I don't want to watch major feature films on it, altho would probably stick some music on it once I've got it.

Re: Would I be happy with an android phone?
A phone is a phone, the rest is extras. I have a HTC Sensation and an iTouch both are different, but I'd rather have the HTC as a phone, I don't see the point in paying over the odds for a brand. After a while I stopped playing around with apps etc (both android and apple) and now just use it as a phone and couldn't be anymore happier (it's cheaper). Each to their own though.

Re: Would I be happy with an android phone?
I used to use an iPhone 3G but now I am a huge Android fan. Had a HTC Desire and now use the Galaxy S2. Both great phones but its the OS that is fantastic.
Most things work similar to the iPhone and the marketplace has a lot of the same apps now.
I'd probably avoid the Wildfire though its pretty awful.

Re: Would I be happy with an android phone?
Personally I much prefer Android as a phone OS, the way it works makes much more sense on a phone to me. However, I love iOS on the iPad and don't particularly like android, although I haven't tried 4.x on a tablet yet.

Re: Would I be happy with an android phone?
My sister, my dad, and me all have the HTC Desire S, Android phone,
Ipersonally wouldn't touch iPhone as they are way overpriced, and you can a a Android phone which will do much the same if not more, for a lot less.

Yes l have to agree with a lot of what Stephen and Hom3r in that l have had a HTC Desire and now have a SG2 and they are superb phones and at a very reasonable price thrown in as well in comparison to the overpriced iphone.

Re: Would I be happy with an android phone?
If you're OK with not having the latest and greatest then you can still get the iPhone 3GS, and it's cheap these days.
If you are looking elsewhere then you should give the Windows Phone an honest try. The Nokia Lumia is the main example at the moment. Ignore the horrible "Windows" brand name, it is actually very usable.

thanks. Don't want the iPhone 3GS, I know the inability to muti-task will get up my nose.
ah now, I was wondering about windows phones - aren't we into the same price bracket as iPhone 4 tho ?

Like Android there are different models of Windows Phone, so the answer can be both Yes and No! Depends how much you do want to pay.
I just did a quick search and found a few offers on the Nokia Lumia 800 and HTC Radar for £20/month. The HTC had cashback available as well. Other handsets are available...

Ah BUT ...
I've been told that I'll not get an android phone to synch with my Outlook contacts and diaries, etc.
Is that true, cos if so it's a deal-breaker ??

My HTC Desire syncs with my work Outlook 2010 with no issues (email, calendar, contacts).

Quick look on here and you can get the Nokia Lumia (nice looking phne IMO) for £20.42 p/m. Personally haven't used Windows OS but my friend has it and loves it. Also, slightly random, the new Xbox 360 dashboard is (I think) based on the Windows OS and I quite like that. I currently have a Samsung Galaxy S, and I love it. It's available at some great prices too. Maybe a touch slow compared to new phones though, had mine 18 months near enough.
