Re: Dolphins!
Snorkelling, or even better scuba diving with Dolphins is an incredible experience. Of course it's much better to do this with a truly wild pod that those in captivity, then it's much more unpredictable and thus stimulating when it happens.

Please leave the dolphins alone..!! do some googling and look at the reports of the mistreatment of dolphins because of people wanting to go to Florida and 'play' with them..
dolphins were not put on this planet to entertain humans
shocking....

I meant out at sea.. somewhere safe'ish. Admittedly I'd brick it but I'd still want to jump in.
Have you done it Rob?

Re: Dolphins!
I don't agree with diving with dolphins that are captive / semi captive. One even needs to be careful in some habitats that we aren't interfering with the places the dolphins treat as their home and is where they bring up their young. But if the dolphins are genuinely in the wild, and able to roam free then if you are in the water and they freely come up to you and in turn aree free to swim off again there is nothing wrong in the experience the same as any other observation and interaction with wildlife.
And yes I have been priviledged enough to have had a couple of genuinely free and wild dolphin encounters in the Red Sea, Egypt on liveaboard trips where the boat you are on itself is roaming around locations that are best described as "the middle of nowhere".

Re: Dolphins!
I'd definitely ask every question in the book before jumping in and be wary and hope they wanna play... they are friendly after all. I'm sure people who do these things as you say Rob, take you out to sea know their stuff and are regulated?

Re: Dolphins!
They are regulated in the way that you might consider anything in Egypt is regulated. Of more interest is that I book through a properly recognised UK based specialist travel package company. It's also an dive boat that I've been on a number of times and know they want to do things the right way, but equally have experienced staff who know where to go and what to look for. But you are ultimately relying that the tour operator has vetted the boat's operation, the boat operator has a good captain and crew, and also that the punter's on the boat want to dive responsibly and not risk the lives of their fellow divers by doing somthing stupid. It's actually the last bit that is the most unpredictable. The types of trip I'm booking on are for the experienced scuba diver. You set sail on the first morning and won't come back to shore until day 6. That means you can get to remote places and hopefully see stuff that is much more naturally behaved.
