Is it Acceptable
Ok folks going to choose my words very carefully ....
Is it acceptable in a primary school here in england for a 9yr old muslim girl to tell a 9yr old NONE muslim girl that " she is going to hell as she is a non believer " ?
I kid you not this has happened to my daugter and another girl in the same class yesterday in a primary school here in manchester , as you can imagine i am furious , we have a meeting in the school tomorrow with the teacher and other persons , I can not go , i am so angry i will lash out , so my partner is going , i am just shocked .
Tell me what you think ?
oh and btw way my daughter was crying her eyes out last night by being afraid to goto bed , this is why i am so angry and want to lash out .
Thank you

No, it is not acceptable, whatever religion does it.

Would you have felt so angry if it was a Christian girl saying the same thing?

The muslim girl is simply repeating what she has been taught. This is what her faith says. As it happens this is what the Christian faith also says.
It is not reasonable to expect a nine-year-old to have a fully adult understanding of when to speak up about such things and when not to.
If you as a family don't adhere to any particular faith, perhaps it would be a good idea to discuss these things with your daughter and talk about what you believe happens after you die (or doesn't happen, as the case may be)?
Not being religious doesn't give you a free pass to assume your children aren't going to ask big religious questions at some point in their lives. If they have had some back-up from you on the issue, then the next time someone tells them what they believe about the afterlife, your daughter will be better placed to give as good as she gets, rather than coming home terrified because she's been confronted with these ideas and concepts for the first time.

wouldn't worry about it ,your daughter might come in crying tomorrow when another pupil tells her she's got a big nose or a fat bottom ,it's what kids do .In my opinion you are making a mountain out of a mole hill.As Chris said explain things to your daughter and put forward your beliefs religious or not

Which, if you don't mind me saying so, is precisely why it scared your daughter so much.
I think it's pretty clear by now that you never discuss the 'big questions' as a family. And if you think the things other people do and believe should not be allowed in school either, how on earth do you expect her to become a well-rounded human being, equipped to deal with the big bad adult world?
Remember, you are an adult, you have had a lifetime to decide what you believe, what you don't believe, and why. You owe your daughter the chance to work through those issues for herself. Pretending they don't exist, or folding your arms and harrumphing that they should be banned, will not help her. Those questions are there to be asked, whether you like it or not, and whatever you think the answers are.

Perhaps you're not aware that over 35% of primary schools are affiliated with a particular faith [ 2001 DES figures]?
(By contrast, a 2009 Tearfund survey found that only 26% of British people attend church at least once a year.)

Well I'm with you on this mate. I would be spitting feathers because you know what would happen if some young Christian kid told a young Muslim that the idea that the virgins waiting for them would be dried up old hags who had been used & abused by all the "other believers" the Christian kid would be kicked out of school for being a racist.
But what you do need is a cool, calm head. Cause going off half cocked wont get you or your partner & kid anywhere.

and why shouldnt she be able to tell people what her religion belives ?
in the same way if an athiest was to tell another child "when you die thats it your gone"
which could equally upset some child who has lost a close relative that they belive is inheaven
( note though a christian I dont belive they are in heaven either whole other story )
freedom of speach and religion or non religion mean that you need to teach kids they willl hear things they dont like and not to let it get to them

Re: Is it Acceptable
Kids will be kids and parents will be parents.
it's just a shame that the parents have taught the girl the mumbo jumbo. let's just pray that they haven't told her anymore mumbo jumbo that will affect her growing up.
you never know. she might be like me and grow up thinking what a load of mumbo jumbo!

Re: Is it Acceptable
Religion and religious views are very personal and I think they should stay that way.
Imposing your views or telling others what will happen is wrong.
Keep those views to yourself.

Re: Is it Acceptable
We might think nothing of it because of the ages involved. but it would be funny if the other girl said "my God is harder than your God"
that's when people have no choice but to react and put a stop to the petty squabbling.
