Sweets
Can anyone personally recommend a website that sells gift baskets full of old fashioned sweets, black jacks, dip dabs, wham bars, bon bons etc.
I have had a look search and there are loads and loads of places but I have been bitten before and the purchases have been nothing but shabby to be honest, hence the personally request.
Ta muchly

Re: Sweets
I have used this Ebay shop in the past and have always been very happy with the quality and speed of delivery. The link I have given is to their Selection Box page but they do loads of the old favorites.

I know of a great tea/coffee shop in Abergavenny if you fancy the drive and some wonderful cake too
They'll mail cake to you but I'm not sure about them mailing their retro sweets: http://www.thebestof.co.uk/local/abe...-of-cake/38727
Bah humbug!!!

My daughter has used the Quarter of site a while back and they were very quick and excellent quality the same as Stephen says above.
When I googled them the others came up so good for comparison.
The is also an American site she uses but that is for a different thread, where you can get anything you loved on a visit over there.

Re: Sweets
I treated John to the Retro box for his birthday and he thoroughly enjoyed his trip down Memory Lane. I swear he was keeping a record of what he had left as he accused me of snaffling a packet of his Fizz Wizzes. As if I would do any such thing.

Re: Sweets
I've used http://www.bahhumbugs.com/
and http://www.aquarterof.co.uk/
in the past.
The only down side is the postage so you need to order loads of sweets to make it worthwhile

Re: Sweets
When I want a quarter of mint creams I trot down to the old fashioned sweet shop in my local high street right next to the picture framers.
With a fishmongers, two independent butchers,an independent bakers and the last independent bookshop in the whole of Gosport I reckon my high street is fighting off the large out of town supermarkets very successfully. We also have about 12 eateries and nine takeaways scattered around this small borough..
It's a real pity that there are no sweetshops anymore..The pleasure I remember as a kid with my pocket money standing looking at the treasures hidden in the jars and the whole counter given over to halfpenny and penny sweets still stays with me 50 years later....Do today's children feel the same I wonder?
