Re: help with electricity bill. am i paying too much?

Electricity bills can be a nightmare to calculate

Is the bill estimated or actual?
Do you keep records of previous meter readings?
£150 for a bill isn't that bad, depending on what period it is over
If it is indeed 2 months, then that is equivalent to £75 per month and many people (including myself) would be happy with that

I take meter readings on the last Sunday of each month and submit them online
I also load these into a spreadsheet
Then every three months I compare to the latest prices (uswitch.com)

Electricity companies won't haggle over price, so simply commence the moving process
If a better deal exists with your current provider phone them up, request the change, and also ensure you request a copy of the change in writing to be received within 7 days

I started off with Scottish Power in 2004, moved in 2005 to Atlantic Energy, but ironically back to Scottish Power in 2007
Earlier this year I swapped between products, initially they were reluctant (obvious as their income reduces) and after 20 minutes they confirmed the request as I advised if they did not honour my request I would move the account to another provider, even if it was more expensive

Re: help with electricity bill. am i paying too much?

scottish power are saying my annual bill will beAnnual price: £323.55 via uswitch

everything in the flat is run by electric...electric cooker, heater system...and i'm on economy 7 tarrif

if my current bill is £146.75 for period of 19th september to 16th Novemeber...its better making a switch right?

You say everything is electric, even heating? If that's so then it's very easy to get that much totalled up in a month if you're using a lot of electric heating. Heating by electricity is much more expensive than gas. The average flat should only use about £30 a month in electric and £30 in gas at most really (I spend a little more but I use more electric than most anyway).

How does that compare to your existing provider?
Who is your local natural supplier? (Usually stamped on the electric meter)
Do you have previous bills?

Equally, it depends on the size of the house
With Economy 7 you also need to take into account the number of storage heaters
Personally, I only use one of the three, the one in the kitchen is a waste of time, and the one in the hallway is debatable instead I simply use a traditional heater as and when required
